Even I know his name is Derek Jeter.

I thought his name was Derper Jeter, myself.

It's Derek Jeter. He hits baseballs.

please don't believe i'm that ignorant.

I know who Derek Jeter is, I just thought I'd make a funny. Guess I'll stay away from comedy clubs and stick to chess.

I thought it was obvious you were joking. My "joke" in response, was rather dry. Sorry.

stuff just got meta.

Paid off by the Ruskies (just like they've always done), because Grishuk is a bigger name.

If I had to venture a guess, I'd say Morozevich is fed up with the way Grischuk has been offering draws early on in games and did something to illuminate the deal to everybody.  Perhaps he wanted to give an example of the flawed thinking behind accepting a draw 12 moves in.

Now, I personally don't think it's too big of a deal to offer a draw 12 moves into the game, but that's just my $0.02.

So what you're saying is...Morozevich was trolling Grischuk. Interesting

Between this^ and the "derter jeter" comment, I nearly p!ssed my pants out of laughter.

This thread has definitely been worth the read.

No. From the opening line he choosed, it is clear that he wanted a draw before the game. I believe Grischuk knew about this, he is a Grandmaster.

I know some players who consistently do things like this for money. It is a good business, knowing that chess players are usually poor. They don't care with master title because they want to get money from non-master tournaments. And of course, win or loose is not important but money is.

It could've been for any number of reasons. Maybe he ate a burritto the night before & was having diarrhea. Maybe he saw a cute blond leaving the room & wanted to get her number. maybe there was a game on TV the he really wanted to see. Somebody in his family could be sick. Maybe he started to get a migraine. He did it and you know what? He doesn't have to explain it to anyone. It's only 1 game.

Morozevich is unpredictable, he has failed to turn up for games and offered draw with white in the opening a few times. Not often at all, generally his games are very exciting and full of fight and his draw percentage is probably the lowest of any top player the last 50 years. The few times it is impossible for him to play normally for some unknown reason, people immediately start talking about him shaming the game or being bribed and I don't know what. Some suggest that he is manic depressive, I don't know, but it's just to accept that he isn't always capable of playing.

Maybe Moro was trying the Godfather Gambit--"I'll make him an offer he can't refuse"--but I don't think he has the Mafia thing down yet; it's for murder and not suicide.  Wink

Right on to a guy who makes his own decisions and doesn't let the crowd tell him wha to do.  Hey, I can see it.  Some days you just don't feel like fighting.  Life is such a drag already.  What the heck?
