my mind is blown that any chess player could be below a 1300

Kasporov, you are a stupid douchebag. Who the fuck are you to call people mentally challenged or retards for being under 1300?
You are a 1100 player in correspondance chess dummy.

You realize that many many people here are under 1300? So all of them are a bunch of idiots?

In order to improve, you have to study, you have to work. Many people play chess just for fun. How about people that is 1500 and lose to some 1200 opponent? By your stupid logic, who is dumber? The 1200 for being below a 1300 or the 1500 for losing to someone below 1300?

How old are you? You sound like a little brat that thinks he is the big deal. I have much more respect for a 100 ELO player than I have for you. And I don't care how strong you are at chess.

Who are you again? Exactly, you are a nobody. So shut up and GTFO of here.

1. I never called anyone mentally handicapped for being a sub 1300 player. I was referencing a post by someone who claimed they knew a person playing chess for 20 years who is still a 900. I cannot imagine anyone playing chess for 20 years yet still a 900 , and normal.

2. I barely joined chess.com like 2 weeks, and I'm low rated in correspondence chess so I can play in a sub 1400 section in a tournament. I'm 1860 for blitz & bullet.

3. I know life gets in  the way of things, which is why I said if you have practiced for more than 3 months yet still below a 1300 rated that is bad. A 1500 might lose to a 1200 but that is highly unlikely. You are using a stupid fallacy to make my logic wrong.

4. I dont claim to be a bigshot in chess, I am just curious what goes on the mind of a sub 1300 rated player why they cannot reach past 1300 rating after practicing for a long time. Obviously if your new to chess and it's your 2nd week playing, this thread does not apply to you.

and if your calling me a nobody then lol @ you. I have accomplished way more stuff in chess in my prime  at a young age than you have your entire life. but then again, your a 1400 in live chess so your most likely under 1300 in real life OTB, so your probally frusterated.

1.- You are saying that your mind is blown away because you do not understand how any adult player that has been playing for more than 3 months can be below 1300. So you are calling "retards" people that have been playing for more than 3 months and they are still under 1300.
As for the 900 guy, what do you know about him? Maybe he is some guy that just plays for fun without thinking so much. Probably he has never read any book or studied anything.
You can't say that he is mentally handicapped because he is very bad at chess. I know plenty of people that are very very bad at chess and however they are very intelligent and succesful people in their lives.

2.- I usually do not criticize people because of their ELO, because then I would be the stupid douchebag that you are. But since you consider yourself such a good player and you bash others, I will make an exception and I will point you that regardless of how long you have been here, you have 3 wins and 4 loses at correspondance chess. Being your best win some 1164 guy and the average ELO of your opponents is 1282. (Even less than 1300!!!! How is that possible that you play and lose against such "weak" opponents???)

By the way, I have seen some of your games and I don't know if you like to play like a noob on purpose or what's the deal. But in some of your games you play like someone who discovered chess yesterday.

3.- A 1500 losing to a 1200 is not highly unlikely my friend. It is not very very common but it happens way more often than you think. I have seen games where a 1200 beats a 1900 guy! I have defeated opponents that had much more ELO than me, and I have lost to guys that are ranked much lower than I am.

4.- What goes inside their mind? There are plenty of possibilities, some of them probably think that they should practice even more, some of them get discouraged, some of them do not even think about it. And no buddy, I have been playing chess for much longer than just 2 weeks. And I know a lot of people that have been playing for years and they are lower than 1300. And they are very smart people, unlike you.

5.- At chess I am a nobody just like you are, but unlike you, I am not acting like a prick and I am not bashing anyone because they do not have a high ELO.

I do not give a flying rat's ass about what you have done in chess compared to what I have done. To me chess is just a hobby and it has always been like that, I don't care about tournaments and fortunately I have accomplished many important things in my professional and personal life, so you are delusional if you think that I am frustrated because my ELO is not very high.

You can be ranked higher than me or anyone else, but in this thread you have showed that you are just a stupid dick. And if you seriously think that you are more intelligent than someone only because you have a higher ELO, then you have some issues my friend.

Well, obviously there are different types of intelligence. There's a type of intelligence that is conducive to being a good chess player, which it seems the OP has to some extent.

Then there's the type of intelligence that helps you realise that chess ratings mean absolute f all in the real world and that criticising someone for a low rating makes you look like the worlds greatest douche burger. Obviously the OP is somewhat lacking in this regard.

I'm not going to answer each question you have, but from I read about your post I have come to a conclusion.

This thread was not made for the people who are new to chess, or those who play every once in a while ( couple of times a year). It was for those people who have played chess & practiced/studied for more than 3 months yet still under 1300.

if you have played chess for 20 years, yet still a 900 then seriously have some mental problems and I am being completely honest. Maybe it's ok if you are 5 years old, but being a grown man practicing chess for that long having 900 rating to show for it is pathetic.

I already pointed out the reason my correspondence chess rating is low is because I rarely play it since it's so boring & I needed my rating low so I could compete in a lower rated section in a chess.com tournament. If you look at my chess 960 games atm, you would know I'm undefeated so far :)

and please, do not bring me down to your level saying we're both nobodies since I am a high rated player, and your just a 1200. Chess is also a hobby of mine, so do not use that as an excuse to why you arent that good in chess.

keep making personal attacks at me, I'm still better at you in chess, and I dont care what names you call me that wont change the fact.

Wow... I was proud to be part of such a community as this... such helpful people relative to the rest of the Internet!

This post saddens me. I mean really? c'mon... insulting people(indirectly or directly) for a difference in background, personal resources and interests is a rotten thing to do.

This aside, as previously mentioned, the OP's statement doesn't really make sense since chess ratings really are all calculated based on other ratings.

puncoder

i think being 1300- is better than being a cheater :D :D

I think you've just admitted to cheating.

not really. I only played like 5 games of correspondence chess just so I could be elible to play in a tournament ( you need 5 games to play in a tourmanet). the tournament already began, so my rating should do nothing but go higher from now.

I've never seen someone that is truly wise, making fun of people that are 'below' him/her. Never. And if they do, it is time for conclusions.

Not everyone here is willing to spend hours a day on study. If I had a second life I might, maybe. But I doubt it. And yet, I've met some really nice persons who you will never know because of your attitude.

You can have the winners, I'll have the ones that are worth knowing. Sounds like a fair deal to me Cool

johnrwebber

It saddens me to read entries where people are insulting each other . For a start many messages come from people for whom English may be their secound or third language. I have a low rating on very fast games but, thankfully, it improves as the time per move increases. My excuse is that this year I will be 70 and I cannot compete with someone in their prime for brain-speed alone. What is important is that we all love this game and we should not insult each other.

yeah because you can totally judge my whole life based on post on a chess online messageboar, your so delusional :)

I'm not making fun of anyone, I am just wondering how can anyone below a 1300 with proper instruction/studying/practicing for a period of time.

obviously I'm not reffering to someone who barely learned chess 4 days ago

some moderator should warn kasparov_jr, it's obvious he only wants to cause problems and bully other people, I think you refer to him as a jockey or whatever it's called in murica lol!

Garry Kasparov - arguably the greatest chess player of all time.

Jerry Kasporov- possibly the worlds greatest ass hat ever.

Kasporov_Jr - proudly following in the old mans footsteps.

your an old man good sir & I respect your dedication for chess that long, and your excuse is understandable. this thread was toward the teens/young adults in this website who practice/study yet fail to achieve past the 1300 rating mark.

As long as the opponents on your level it shouldn't matter what your rating is mines not very good and my blitz rating is dreadful

I made a thread asking what is keeping low rated players from becoming over 1300 rated .........and I get many personalattacks from random members insulting me , yet you say I'm the one bullying people.

how about you actually read the thread for starters?

TheRocketKing

well, my impression was that you insulted people who can't reach 1300 in ratings and saying that they were mentally disabled or stupid. After all this is just a game that basically doesn't provide anything economically so it makes sense people aren't investing a lot of time in chess. The only people who get a decent income is only top 10 in the world and only carlsen gets most profit of it. When I play poker there are many people who make stupid decisions but I dont think they are retarded, only lacking a lot of theory.

astronomer999

Gee Mr Kasparov, you shouldn't get so upset over trifles. If someone hasn't explained to you why about 1/2 of all players are below average by now I'd be very surprised.

It's very easy. You get points for winning, but you drop points for losing. Even if the hopeless players dropped out, you would still find, after a while that there were lots of sub average players (about 1/2 of the pool) who would have lost enough points, even as the pool got stronger, that their rating dropped below your magic 1300

I am beginning to think that you are just trolling. Mr. Undefeated at 960 chess, you have only one game so far genius!!

Second thing, you really show how much of an immature and insecure person you are. That kind of people are the ones that make comments like yours.

I know it hurts for you to admit it buddy, but at chess you are a complete nobody. 1800 is not impressive at all to be considered "somebody" at chess. You may be better than me and you may beat me 10 times out of 10, so what? You are still an amateur. I would also beat 10 times out of 10 many other people, and not because of that I will be something special. There are many amateur people that would beat you 10 times out of 10.

You just have such a low self esteem that you need to compare yourself to other ones. And you compare yourself to people that have a lower ELO, so you can feel a bit better about yourself.

I pity you.

This is actually the truth. And he is correct, if you go back and read he never acutally directly insulted people for not getting past 1300.

The post and comments about 900 rated players, however, were quite condescending.

If you can't understand that anyone could be below 1300 rating, you have trouble understanding how ratings (and rankings) work.

Even if by magic the skills of every chessplayer was lifted by the same amount, so that the players who are now below 1300 would play as a 1400 player play today, they would still be rated below 1300.

No other answer than this is needed.

Except for the comment that someone who puts so much value on ratings don't have the foggiest idea how they work.
