New Android app explorer

Even I open the explorer, it shows the moves, not for me, but for the options my opponent had on his turn. If I try making a move to reach the correct position in the explorer, my basic membership prevents me. First of all, this needs to be fixed, secondly, before I could use the explorer for like five moves instead of one. This is not a fair change to allow only premium members access to the explorer, as it is a significant advantage in games.

yes, But chess.com also has to make money some how to pay its employs

Oh, I agree. I think that premium is a good thing and is necessary for things like unlimited tactics, videos, creating clubs, using flair, puzzle rush, etc. But to block all access from an in-game tool is not fair

There are several free opening databases on the internet, so there you go. Your problem is solved.

Not sure when it changed, but Opening Explorer isn't listed as a benefit for basic members. The old app was running on the older feature set, but the new one is aligned with the current website features.

You can, they just shouldn't include engine evaluations for the moves or resultant positions.

Hmm. That seems unfair considering that it is a tool used in game.

It was limited before, it was just removed at some point. I don't know the reason.

How is it unfair? It's just a matter of convenience, since it can be found for free all over the web.

mgx9600

Is it unfair that econ players are given only stools to sit because they paid less? And GMs who don't pay anything must stand the entire game?  Such is life in the real world.  So here's life in chess.com.

MGleason

There are other databases that can be used for free, that are not limited.

I was able to test the Explorer function in a completed game and it works as expected. @jdh1, are you seeing the issue in an ongoing Daily game?

Yes

Are you on the move when attempting it or is your opponent? Or does it matter?

jdh1

It doesn't matter. Neither works
