People who disconnect

Please correct me if I'm wrong, or naive, or, well, just not a sore loser.  But people who, when losing a game choose to log off instead of either finishing the game or resigning, well, what is that all about?

I'm not very good at chess.  I lose as many games as I win.  And this is at a level around the 1200-1300 mark.  So I'm no great shakes.  My settings when I play a game are set to playing players who are no more than 200 points above or below me.  So the players I play aren't exactly great players either.  But nevertheless, I play at a level, and every single game I play I remain civil.  If I lose a game, I recognise that that that is because the other player played better than me, or simply is a better player than I am.  I will resign if I see no way out, but I will never ever log off when such a scenario presents itself, thus never making my better opponent (at least in that game) have to wait until they are able to record the win that their play deserves.

People who do that - that is, log off because they can't can't accept losing, and thus making their opponent wait for the victory, well, they are deserving of contempt.  And they approach the game with an attitude that isn't befitting the game of chess.

Anyway, I've got that off my chest.  Simply put, I just wish that people, no matter what level they play at, would just be civil, fair, and play the game in the spirit that it should be played.

Mr. Cat, The unfortunate reply to your last paragraph is that you're gonna be disappointed. About 10% are bad losers, 5% bad winners, don't let it bother you, when somebody disconnects just let the game time-out and block anybody who's being a prat. There are plenty of good people on here too.
