It is poor sportsmanship. You can't force your way into playing players of a higher ELO, since chess.com's pairing system automatically puts you up against people of the same level, which is the most justified way it can be. End of discussion.
Personal rating policy of mine

If you're unwilling to play against lower-rated players, then why should higher-rated players be willing to play against you? What makes your preference to play up more important than their own preference to do the same (which, if honored, would ensure that you never get a game)?
> I want to play with people who are 1600+ right now.
Yes, and those people want to play with people who are 1700+ right now. The existing system is fair in that it gives us what we want some of time and makes us give our fellow players what *they* want some of the time.

"rigged settings". Are you high? What exactly is the benefit of you playing vs 1600+ only anyway? Playing against people of similar skill is ultimately the best since you have tons to learn and you are competing against yourself in the end. You have the option to mostly play against higher rated if you adjust the settings anyway.
Divert your energy to something more logical...

+1 but you can edit a range in the settings

Little do you people know that he can force only 1600 plus. It is just a pain in the butt. When you go to live play, instead of 3 minute or 5 minute, there is an option to see a graph of open seeks. Go there and only click on those 1600 on up.
You will find this annoying though as quite often, you will get messages that you do not fit the range being accepted for that match.
You would probably also have to be willing to play different time controls, like 3 0 one game, 5 5 another, 5 0 another, etc.
Outside of the server going down or the occasional time that your internet goes down, ONLY LOSERS ABORT GAMES! Therefore, you immediately abort, you AUTOMATICALLY get the thumb down from me. It is a little trickier when you time out the 20 seconds. Often times I do it then too because it takes a number of thumb downs to be restricted. If your connection is spotty, and you get a disconnect, you probably should quit playing until your connection is better. I run into this problem about once every 3 months. When I do, I do not keep on trying to continue live play. I stop. So maybe 4 times a year I wind up with a disconnect. But never do I intentionally abort. INTENTIONAL ABORTERS DESERVE TO BE RESTRICTED!!!

+1.
No matter what you think, chess.com's policy is the policy. If you think your policy is more justified than the way it is now, it's only fair for people like OP to receive a restriction.

Thank you, this is helpful.

But a suggestion: you could play in Arena tournaments, where you are frequently paired with much higher (and lower) rated players.

If you want high players to play, go to live chess > open challenges then find a high rated player by hovering over dots, for variants hover over hill with top of king for koth, 3+ for 3 check, etc.

Set your challenge range for plus or minus 100-200 points of your existing rating. Save yourself a boatload of mindless keystrokes.
For example, my range is set for 50 below and 150 above, (by choice). It's Very Simple. Just make your own choice, PLEASE.
End of Story.

I keep getting this message so I felt like explaining my personal rating match-up policy which I can't set due to the rigged settings of chess.com.
Please play all games that you start. Aborting too often may lead to your account being restricted. Please review our Sportsmanship Policy if you have any questions.
No. It's not poor sportsmanship. I don't want to play against a certain rating category. I WANT to follow policy here but it makes it difficult when I keep getting paired with a rating category I don't want to play against. I want to play with people who are 1600+ right now. That means I need to abort against 1500 players because I can't fix that as a setting. Do you see my frustrations here? I get accused of "poor sportsmanship" and all I'm doing is just trying to have a good time on chess.com. There are other sites I can play on where I can enforce this in my settings but I can't do that here. I wish the settings could be adjusted. Explain how it is fun for me to see this every time I end up paired with a rating category I don't want to play against because I can't adjust my pairing settings to prevent.
you can adjust your pairing settings. Go to custom challenge and select the 'rating gate' you are happy playing in. You can also choose between rated and unrated
