People like being part of a community, and the forum is the only place they can contribute. But the only thing you can do on the forum is post, or create new topics.
If there was some other way people could contribute, and form connection with other people, there might be a positive outcome.
For example, creating an online version of the book Fundanmentals of Chess Openings, or any other part of chess, contributing like wikipedia.
All that energy is going to waste in people trash talking, and posting general nonsense.

Indiana, i am not lost. I am only impressed by the confusion, emotions, agression and stupidity of quite some of these posts. There is nothing to fight over because this is a virtual world. You can not marry anybody on chess.com and there is no money to be gained (not that money is of interest when you have enough)
I travel a lot, so my time is confusing. For me also :-)

About a year ago more than half of this did not exist, poor threads and trash talking. At that time a person could see quality topics, find anwsers to almost anything and/or contribute to inrich them.
What happen to the people that created these threads? Well.......
The members that remain that are able to bring back the quality of the public forum......... guess they feel it is not worth it or too much work.
Am I allowed to self advertise and say I still occasionally post poems that no one reads? Nahhhh, better not. :p

There has to be some sort of index of good posts.
That way what is good is always visible and does not get buried. It is ok to have stupid posts as long as we are aware of what is worthwhile.
