Somebody just Accused me of using a Chess Engine

Sort:

Better, he said it was "pretty obvious dude lol".

Here's the fun part: It was 10 minute chess. I'm rated 867 in 10 minute chess. And he thought I was using a chess engine.

Better than that? I lost the game. So I was using my chess engine to reach the strong, strong rating of 867 and lose to players ranked in the 900s.

Yeah, that makes sense. Next I'll take steroids and try to break the Mendoza line for the first time in t-ball!

Doggy_Style

Yeah! stop using the weakest engine in existence! Laughing

Does kind of make you wonder what your opponent was using... Smile

I've been accused of using an engine a few times, but never from someone who was of a high enough rating to take it as a compliment.Laughing

lol

I think the reason was that I was taking a relatively long time in between moves (although since it was ten minute chess anyway he couldn't exactly claim I was taking up too much valuable time).

Anyway, the reason had nothing to do with a chess engine. I was watching "Run, Freedom, Run" from the awesome musical "Urinetown Cool. Probably contributed a bit to the loss too.

I was just reading that thread! I AM rated 867. "Run, Freedom, Run" or not I'm not playing well in my games. Happy now?

How many horsepower did he think it had?

Doggy_Style

Okay, I take it all back. That would make anyone play badly enough, to be picked as an engine.

Sorry, it's the times in which we live.  Even GMs of all people get accused of computer cheating sometimes, even in FIDE events!  Sometimes a guy would utilize long distance communication and someone would relay the computer moves back to them.  I mean there are other ways to improve your rating.

I'm not sure if you're saying that the video is really good or really bad, but all I know is that the singer in the video has one of the best voices I've ever heard.

Organic, in all liklihood.

I always wonder why the call them chess engines. I would call it a chess program.

Isn't that the one with naturally curly hair?

You may be thinking of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" (which I've also seen and is also very good). Laughing

People also call them programs, but it is a funny distinction.

Chess engine is to aircraft engine as GUI is to cockpit.  You can download a chess engine and have no way to use it.

In fact, the conversation went something like this:

Opponent: "What chess engine are you using?"

Me: "What? What are you talking about?"

Opponent: "The program you're using to play chess. They're illegal on this site you know."

So I suppose they really can be used for the most part interchangeably.
