The fact that algebraic notation is used indicates chess is a primitive game.

Obviously chess has been toned down to make it accessible a the level of elementary school students, high school students, and Liberal Arts majors, because it is a game in which algebra is applicable but trigonometry and calculus are not.

Just call me angel, of the morning, baby.  (No, not you).

Calculus... hmm....

The fact that algebraic notation is used indicates chess is a primitive game.

Well the game is around 1000 years old.

Other profound statements of reflectivist.

"I don't use a debit card because it is simpler henceform primitive.  Checks are my choice of payment---always."

"Why do we have a space program?  There is no air up there!"

"Why did the Egyptians stack rocks on top of each other?  I would have used wood from the local trees.  Much easier"

Finally, someone who was able see how serious I was with this thread topic.  What gave it away?  Was it the suggestion that using 'calculus notation' would make chess a less primitive sport?  :-)

Algebra can be a lot more complicated that trigonomery. I suggest taking a class in abstract algebra. You'll find it at your local university.

I prefer discriptive notation, that's more primitive than algebraic

SonofaBishop67

I prefer pictographic notation...even more primitive!

Knightly_News

Post-modern pictographic or ancient hieroglyphic? Always a tough choice.

Ancient, of course. That last one is a mate in 4, isn't it? I dont have my translating glasses on.

Unfortunately the keys to deciphering that cave art died with the denizens, and I couldn't tell you exactly what it means.   But when you see it referring to a game you and I are playing, it usually means you should resign immediately...  I'm pretty sure that's what it means anyway.
