Thinking about joining a chess club

I would like to ask the ones of you here that are members of a chess club a couple of questions. First, I'm concerned about the quality of my play. I'm not sure how good an average club player needs to be (and don't tell me to just go even if I'm the worst player ever because it really sucks to be someone no one wants to play because you are to easy). Aslo, would you recommend people to join a chess club or is internet better? And last, is it more difficult to play OTB? :S

I recommend going to a chess club because it is a fun way to enjoy chess and be with other people who enjoy the game.  I personally prefer going to a Chess Club than Chess.com, but Chess.com is open 24/7 and my chess club is notCry.

I would recommend just going as you are,  I know I went to my chess club as a beginner, and the President of the club showed me around the club, and then personally connected me with people who were the same skill level as I was.  If it is a thriving club, the President will usually be able to get you to a point where you can play people of the same skill level.

I agree with unbeliever. OTB chess is a LOT more fun than internet chess and you often make friends for life from the contacts you make. Don't worry about your level. The first club I joined I was the worst player there and literally everyone beat me .....in 5 years I was the best player in the club. Smile

I'm finally joining a chess club this year and will probably get beaten badly for a while.  I haven't played an over the board game in years.  With your rating, I doubt you would have any trouble finding players at your level.  My first meeting will be Monday, I'll post here how it goes.  Good luck, I'm sure it will be worth it.
