I been playing chess for a long time. and i played afew people who are not as good. if they want a rematch afew times. and dont get any better. i give up on them. it just doesnt seem fun anymore playing them. i have nothing personal against them it just thier chess playing. so guys just tell the no thanks.
Do you apply this policy in single-session, fast (OTB/LiveChess) chess only - or also in multi-session, slower (CC/Turn-based) chess?
Congratulations on your 3 and 2 record Kasparov. You won 3 against a lesser opponent. And lost 2 to a lesser opponent. Are you kidding me?
If you play chess online for a while you will run into very many of these people. It's not difficult to find, for instance, a player with thousands and thousands of blitz games under his belt yet has been in the same rating band for years. And I'm not talking about masters who've hit a plateau--I mean beginner-level players who, despite having played so many rated games, have not moved one whit.
But as Ninshikou points out, there are players who push the wood around and there are players who are interested in improving their game. It's the same way in pretty much every other facet of life. Haven't you ever had a political discussion with someone who sounds like an idiot because they can't be bothered to actually research an issue?
Ho, Ho, Ho, How can you say this when you only play, players with lower rating than yourself? Me thinks one is getting up himself!!
I usually will play anybody that is polite and honest. Whether higher or lower ranked, I usually learn something, and it gives me a chance to put it in use.
I actually deleted my post because i didn't really get what dls48 meant by ''so guys just tell the no thanks.'' But basically, everyone wants to win but there is people that don't try or care enough to get themselves the tools to learn. By tools i mean, asking for help, taking the time to look at every possibilities while playing or simply being more open minded, etc. The question is.. can you change the player? Do the player want to be changed? Yes, no? Case per case issue.. It's at everyone's discretion to share or not help those players.
It's like pointing someone's who's fat and saying: ''you're fat!'' and expecting a ''Oh thank you! I didn't notice! I shall find somewhere to train and take care of this right now!''
That person is probably more likely to think that you're mean.
Also, it's not like we were in a better boat, you see, there is plenty of 2000+ rating people that could probably look at our games and feel like it's hopeless and that we don't understand anything about chess.
Maybe the guy who keeps getting beat just wants to "push wood". Didn't you ever play cards with someone who stunk, but kept coming back and throwing money at you. Bet you wouldn't complain about that. btw, that's the first time I've ever heard of someone complaining about winning. If the game's too easy, try playing higher rated players.

To be fair, OP did say "if they want a rematch afew times". To accept one rematch is courteous. To continue to accept unappealing rematch requests is a big ask.

I am new to the game and honestly really suck. I only play the computer and get crushed, though I am up to making it beat me in over 20 moves now. That is a huge win for me. I have actually politely refused to play humans thus far.
One day I may but for now I don't see myself as a challenge and am not interested in being written about as the guy who sucks and plays on a Scooby Doo chess set by anyone else but me so far. I like to push around mystery machines and tombstones.
If a person sucks but wants a social engagement and a little friendship or comraderie what's the big deal beating them?
My wife, daughter and I play mini-golf together. Excuse me for not being more cerebral than that, but I crush them everytime and still want to be with them. I love playing them because we are together and we can make fun from the milieu. I also go to lunch with people who only know how to engage in NY Giants football conversations. Nothing deeper than that. But that's fun too. Same for my fishing buddies.
Perhaps the lesser players just want to hang and enjoy the gestalt. If that is not your bag then you may need to associate with more serious players or put a disclaimer on yourself that you only care to play "serious" players above a certain rating. You have the good fortune of having won and can now be an Ambassador for a hugely satisfying game/sport/activity. Seems like that is a great position to be in.

I think that was the whole point of dis48 starting this thread. Some people may want to play for fun, and sure we all need to respect that but the same goes for people who want some more serious games. dis48 was probably furstrated by a few players asking for endless rematches and seeking to vent that frustration with some like-minded people.
No disrespect meant, but to me, this is not so much of a problem. If someone were to ask me for a re-match i didn't want, I'd just say "Sorry, I have a habit of not playing the same person twice on the internet in one day" and problem solved! And if everyone remembers to respect their opponent, then there won't even be a problem anymore. Just imagine it's sex - if someone doesn't want it, then you stop asking after the first no.
From the previous post, one can conclude that chess = sex.
By the way, Salamillion, play other humans! Even the wimpiest computer makes less mistakes...
I don't know how I got to 1400+. I'm really not that great at looking ahead. At least I know how all the pieces move.
Regarding playing against computers/software engines, here's a quote from GM John Nunn's recent edition of Secrets of Practical Chess:
"One of the last things you should do, except if you are a masochist, is to play games against your computer. Assuming you are not one of the top few players in the world (and possibly even then), this will only make you depressed."
I have taken Nunn's advice seriously and never play these things.
