No kidding, this is a great time to be alive. Don't you agree windmills?
It depends on the place you are, too. But I agree, it is unlikely I would have reached adulthood in the 11th century for example.
We have no choice about when we live.
For those of us in the privileged West, born after WWII this may well be the best time in human history to be alive ... or, as "best" is not well defined, the safest, healthiest, ... etc.
But I don't see any reason to single out 2017 for special praise. And this is not such a great time for the several billion people that are not so privileged.
And then there is the big problem of our age. There are so many of us and we waste energy and resources on such a prodigious scale that we are affecting the overall ecology of the planet. The consequences are entirely unpredictable, even if Governments pretend otherwise, because our computer simulations are incomplete and don't work on a sufficiently find-grained scale. However, we can be sure that whatever the changes in the climate and ecology turn out to be they'll be disruptive and damaging to humankind.

I agree as long as one have a regular income. Internet and cable tv does not come free 😊 And the beautiful women are much prettier than 30 years ago.

Modest, I only use 2017 as this is today, a general term. Technologies are good, we are improving, etc etc.

HOWEVER! 3rd world countries are now receiving smart phones (some that even do not have running water) and they are learning to improve their situation using the internet.

Advanced technology does not necessarily mean improvement in our lives. Technology is actually responsible for many of our problems.
We need appropriate technology, used properly. We do not have it, because our real needs are perverted by the insane economic system we have adopted.
And if I Iived in a poor African country I'd rather have a guaranteed supply of clean water than a smart phone.
