I had metal for a long time.  Currently using...lemme see.  Green and very pale green. It's called Wood Olive.  My rating is lower than ever...maybe it's time to change the board again?

Heyyyyyyyy Miss Morocco.  I still have your wooden board :D I set up the pieces like our online games sometimes so that I can look at it on a real board. bissssoussss

the one with the silver and gold on the wooden pieces?  lol.  I remember the huge fight I had with mom to buy me that thing!  enjoy it!

I use the wood color. Otherwise I use light blue or green.

I remember my first computer chess program had bright yellow with dark green. It was awful to look at.

I'm seeing a lot of blue-and-white vinyl boards in photos on the Internet, especially in scholastic settings, but I think I even saw a few at Corus.  What's up with that?

 lol That's exactly what I have.Laughing

For online I use the default brown board.

I once played in a tourney against a kid with a black and white board with black and white pieces. For some reason I couldn't calculate so well with it and eventually got a headache.Yell

I like wood and buff. Green and buff is also good. Black and white is to harsh in my opinion. It's not as easy on the eyes.  I just got an olive wood set. It's very nice to play on.

On a wooden board, regardless of the wood colours, I hate it when the grain runs across the board rather than from me to my opponent. Seriously! For some reason it looks so wrong to me and I find it very distracting if I have to play on it. All of my own wooden boards have the grain running the way I like it Laughing

Does this affect anyone else, or am I the only one with this weird hangup?

VULPES_VULPES

I like the purple/cream colour.

@1001Knights:

Yes, I have the same hangup, but reversed: I hate vertical grain, although I will play with it.

Just ordered a custom Padauk and maple 2 1/2" square board to go with a 4.5" Ebony set that currently has no home.  Padauk is as close to red as you can get in a natural wood.  The bright contrast will probably give me headaches, but I have "safer" color combinations to use for analysis...Laughing
