When did this last happen to you?

I know that one of my resolutions when I had just started playing Chess was to look out for Knights that may give me check at the same time forking my Rook. It was a constant fear. It's been a long while since that last happened - I know it's over 15 years - since the position on the board or some close cousin of it happened to me!

Did you experience such fears?

What were your other fears?

this is one of the most common double attacks in chess... at least for me...

I don't think that ever happened to me at least not that I know of, but I've used it sometimes.

Knights have too often been my undoing... those sneaky b------s.

I have been watching out for knights, and in a recent game and in at least four recent games my own knights have killed rooks with simultaneous threats to the king. In one game my knight was in a position where he had a choice of which rook to fork!

Conventional wisdom is that a bishop is worth slightly more than a knight. I always believed that, but lately I have come to greatly respect the abilities of the knight, and if given a chance to trade a bishop for a knight, will often prefer to keep my knight and to sacrific a bishop to kill an opposing knight. Knights are the great equalizers because when you are down in material it is often the knight who, through stealth, can sneak up and catch the queen, unaware.

i just got double forked. he checked me, and forked my bishop and rook making it impossible to protect both.

Not a nice feeling.

there's something I don't trust about Knights. I think it's their subtlety. I don't fully understand how to use them myself, and therefore am often caught unawares by my friend's knight moves.

that said, if it comes to swapping off, I'll always swap a knight for a bishop. I suppose I'm just more comfortable using them.

In a recent endgame I had two knights against a rook, and that rook gave me the complete runaround. Lesson learned.
