Stavros, while you are right, that doesn't make the statement that a6 is usually not as strong in the French wrong. Sure, there are lines where a6 is playable in the French, but a6 is far more thematic in the Sicilian.

well a6 is less useful for black in the french. In fact its somewhat counterproductive. a5 is played more often than a6 in the french.
