It is unfortunate but, this chess website is set up (written) to make money for the owners of this website, meaning that only paying members with a diamond membership will be able to hack the clock or cheat on a regular basis.

It is in the interest of the owners, because they are in reality, extorting players of their website.

The only way to change this, is for an international chess organization to take over control of the website, with official rules and ratings.

This will not happen in the near future.

If people become tired of being extorted and cheated, and the website has a large loss of members and interest, they may decide to re-write the program, that or shut it down!

It’s actually kinda funny that you believe that

Hey chess.com My last game was rigged. The opponents time was running out and suddenly with 16 seconds left he makes a move and then I am unable to make mine, the app hangs, timer is stuck. No more chess games. Not worth it. Good bye.

agreed, it's either chess.com incompetence or a hack

There was a site issue and staff are working on it

had 3 seconds left on my clock, pre-moved and lost on time instantly after my op made their move. Happens multiple times a day. I don't see how a clock can have lag - its not some complex graphics or mechanics and i very much doubt the timer service is coupled to anything. I dont have lag my side, if my op does it should eat their time, not mine. Never once happened on lichess and has only been happening the past year for me.

I feel sorry for Martin having to try and defend cc against all the complaints about clocks

Avatar of HangingPiecesChomper

Why feel bad for martin when its a legitimate complaint

Avatar of chekagain

Are you saying that comment 15 is a legitimate complaint?

I mean most of the posts in this thread is complaining about the timer. You going to say they're all trolls or something?

It's not uncommon for companies to make users who don't pay to run slower. For example, windows when unactivated actively makes your pc run significantly slower until you activate it.

As someone who had no membership for a year and then got membership for a year I can confidently say that I experience the same in game experience with and withought membership. The only time I have experienced “ rampant timer hacking” is when my sister spilt a glass of water on my internet box

Hahahaha! Was it on purpose or on accident

Accident, luckily it didn’t break

I suspect hacking the clock on this site is incredibly easy. Either by sending a packet with false ping information, or manipulating your own ping.

That's not happening. The server keeps the official clocks and the code only allows a certain amount of lag over a series of moves. The server code would need to be hacked to modify clocks. It's just not happening.

it must be an indian server issue because 99 percent of the time is a player from india who just joined hahhahaha sort it out Chess.com

i have lost many many games due to this and lag happena right when im about to win. Cmon chess.com staffs, accept it and focus on fixing the issue instead of locking up the discussion.

The weird time issues have occurred in bullet sometimes. I used to also think it is hackers and would report, but then the clock started to play tricks on me once and I felt like noooo now someone will think that I cheated 😖 It felt terrible to realize that I might have reported people for cheating even though they might have nothing to do with it and it was a tech issue all along that happens sometimes in bullet. So I stopped suspecting people especially when learning that some use multiple premoves and that might make the game feel weird too. But luckily the time issues have not happened in the last tournaments that I have played, it seems to work better now. Naturally some people are incredibly fast and I can be that too if I reach my best performance (best 17 wins in a row) so I don't doubt others can be naturally that fast. If someone actually cheats I hope they all get caught so people can get compensated. But it is truly annoying if people can't win tournaments because of foul players.

Winning a blitz tournament made me feel that ok perhaps real people can actually win these, it restored some faith in the system to actually win once. But bullet remains a mystery if people win with actual skills, I truly hope so! If I can win at least once then I know so. I was happy with 4:th place & annoyed not to get a medal with same points as 2&3. I hope it wasn't my best bullet tournament & that I can do better. Gotta keep trying sometimes! Not too often though.
