At the copper canyon in northern Mexico, sleeping outside because we were too tightarsed for the nearby hostel.

During my Optics Lab lecture in college...I played blindfold against myself. Probably looked like I was taking notes to the professor, but it was notation so I could go over it later.

I suppose the blindfold game at the company christmas party versus the iPad could count...or the blindfold game (no board at all) at a party. The guy I was playing would consider his move, walk up to me, interrupt the conversation with "knight f-3" and walk away. I'd find him when I'd decided my move and do the same thing.

Back in '93, during the war. My opponent was on opposite side of trenches, so we were shouting moves.

When I forked his queen he got angry and sent few 82mm mortar grenades. Tongue Out

Think back to games you have played in your past, whether it be from a jail cell, or a plane-thousands of miles above the ground. Everyone has a game or two up their sleeves that have taken place in a venue that others may claim is strange. Where was yours?

"That'd be in the butt, Bob". (reference?)

I was playing in a tournament at a college but they did not have enough classrooms for chess. so they set up some tables in the hallway.
the strange thing was that there was people from other activities going in and out of other classrooms and they looked at us like we were animals in the zoo.
you could hear people say things like " I could never be that quiet"

another strange place is a tournament going on in a church - not a place you expect to play chess.

I don't think anybody has ever played in a plane thousands of MILES above the ground. :)  But anyway, I've never played anywhere but here.

the side of a busy road, eating fried banana with green chili against an old bus driver !

in a plane 27000 feet above ground, against a chess software on the seat screen. The hard setting was even weaker than some 1400s I have played

The first OTB tourney I ever went to, our truck broke down on the way coming back (it was 100 miles or so).  So we sat there playing chess in the cab until the AAA guy showed up.

If you were waiting for AAA why did you get a cab?
