Could be that you have to pay for ICC, so patzers like me are less inclined to join.

I think there are many extremely good players on chess.com.  Certainly way better than me.

The ICC/FICS interfaces are much, MUCH better to use. It is straight forward and very to-the-point, whereas chess.com's board is laggy, and you are constantly bombarded with ads. Since FICS is free, have better players, free computer analysis, and all the other bonuses, I have no idea why anyone would use this site over it.

I respectively disagree. For me, the convenience of chess.com's browser interface outweighs everything else. I love the modern, web 2.0 interface, and never have lag problems. Plus, for lower-rated players like me, the large pool of players here makes it easy to find a game quickly.

...so, why are you here?

I think FICS stinks.  It uses those hideous ICC-style graphics with all those extremely cumbersome and hard to remember command lists.  Oh yeah, and I also got into an altercation with an extremely jerky, hall-monitorish mod or TD or whatever he was (and haven't been back since).

I think I just got used to the quickness and responsiveness of the FICS interface (I used Babaschess).. there was never lag when pre-moving and moving pieces, whereas chess.com's interface has a very sluggish feel to it? I'll take no lag over a nice looking layout anyday but that's just me.
