David-Neff, help me! I can't, for the life of me, figure out what a "troll" is?

Troll-a person who likes to start fights and arguments on forums

ivandh

So who was starting a fight/argument?

electricpawn

Troll can also mean trolling for fish with your trolling motor.

Dunno Ivan, how about some oversized men in wussy protective gear throwing an egg around for 10 seconds, and then shouting at the camera for a minute, and then standing around as commercials are shown for 15 minutes on the hosting tv sets?

Yeah that sounds boring too, which is why instead I watch hockey.

I like hockey too.  Pity I don't really have any access to it, and haven't seen any of the finals.  It's the only sport I really adopted when I moved here (from across the pond), mostly because I can see it as a condensed, faster, and more violent form of soccer [sic].  The real problem with hockey is that we're supposed to believe board battles are interesting, at all.

trysts - yeah, Stosur is playing muy bien, though when I started watching tennis, I was all about Federer on the men's side, and Henin on the women's (it's a single-hander thing!), so I was a little disappointed she triumphed over Justine.  Still, it's good a new star is born, and I'll be supporting her tomorrow.  Even if I can't watch it Wink

Yeah, I think we should go to the international style- 100x200ft. instead of 85x100ft. Would open things up for the skill players and reduce the board battles. But, that would 1. require refitting every stadium, and 2. admit that maybe we Americans do not know everything.

Tryst is just another word that means meeting. Rendezvous and assignation are other words that convey the same meaning as that of tryst. It is a noun. Nowadays this word is also used to describe a secret meeting or date between lovers. Thus in the modern lingo it is considered as a pre-decided agreement to meet at a stipulated place and time. It has been borrowed into the English language from the Old French word triste and has been incorporated in the English language since the medieval times. But at that time it was known as trist. It originally referred to as a waiting place for hunting wild animals. Thus trist at that time was a name for a hunting station. It is pronounced as trahyst. "She is planning a tryst with my handsome neighbour", is an example of the usage of this word in a sentence.

Always puts me in mind of Tristan (and Iseult). They didn't have child support issues though.

Seems it was a good final, though, which is something which has been sorely lacking in the women's game in all the Slams, and on both sides with the French Open.

I remember at the last US Open, with memories of the great Wimbledon and Australian finals, one of the commentators here said that 'the US wants its own Federer - Nadal final,' and I couln't help but think 'and so does the French...'
