Chess.com upgraded my membership without my approval

Last year I was a Diamond member. Some time towards the end of the year I was not using the many features here so I downgraded my account to Gold. No problem. My membership renewed on Jan 15. so I assumed it would renew itself automatically ( which I'm not a big fan of) at gold membership. It renewed alright but as a diamond membership. Luckily it was only a few days after renewal that I noticed this and went to the membership page and downgraded to gold. Then was told I had a credit in my membership account for the difference. I would think most people would want their money back, I know I did. But I was listed as having gold status till 2014 if I wished. When I stated I wanted my money returned I was told I had to ask for it from paypal. When it was taken I wasn't asked but now when I want it back I have to ask.

I think chess.com needs to revise how they deal with memberships. I hate feeling like I just did business with the quicky loan company down the street . Has anyone else had this problem. I love the hard work and results that Eriq and staff have put into Chess.com. I just think you need to correct some weak points in you membership program.  p.s. I still want my money back  Laughing

I wrote a similiar letter a few days ago when I was on the membership page and a pop ups says, Any questions write us here. which I did but had not received an answer yet. Also I just noticed that I am again a diamond member. what the hell is going on?

Hello scut. I am sorry for this matter with being auto-renewed at the wrong level. Please send me a personal message with your Paypal email address and I will be happy to refund the difference on the yearly Diamond membership charge so that you will only be charged for a yearly Gold and then I will update your Chess.com account accordingly.

I can see your point "oldrunner" since I also have had problems, similiar to this, on other sites with membership fees.  But to be fair to Erik and his staff they corrected everything to my liking so things are good.
