Perhaps the one who starts a forum topic will want to close it so no further comments may be added. What then? Are chess.com forums never to be closed?

perhaps if you just added a belligerent post to the end of it so chess.com will lock it?  cuss someone out about there religious and political beliefs should do.

perhaps this is not too helpful, but it would be funny to try.

You can make a request to staff that a thread be locked, but honestly, once a thread is posted in the public forums it's really owned by the community, not the original creator.  This is more of an issue with requests to delete threads, but applies to having them locked as well.

At Chess.com, with a stated 2million plus members/users, any post is bound to attract statements by people that create confusion or chaos within the thread, which leads to a lock or deleted posts. It is a shame, because there are good voices with interesting things to say...

I wanted to post this in the original #1 post of this thread but I was headed out the door at the time. An example of a thread that I think could be locked is here:

@planeden: violence is no way to solve problems

@TheGrobe and randomfischer: this is exactly why I think it would be valuable to be able to close threads, to prevent those loose, baggy monsters from infiltrating the clear thoughts we love so much here at chess.com.
