I think it universely agreed that pawn moves are advisable at the opening, probably because they help open up the diagonals for your pieces and grab space. I'm not sure about knight moves.

wbbaxterbones

That was a very vague question, It really depends, but I agree with lamcleverbot.

ZamanRashid1

Thank you for the answer! So what pawn is the best start with?

wbbaxterbones

Either e4 or d4 mostly, some start with c4, but that is really your choice.

chessdude46

I like to use e4, d4, and c4, but Nf3 also works to if you know what ur doing.

wbbaxterbones

Nf3 usually transposes into d4 or c4 openings.

Iamcleverbot

e4 is a classic first move. If I'm not mistaken, Bobby Fischer proved that it was best, but I'm not 100% sure.

chessdude46

Nf3 can transpose into those openings, unless you play the King's Indian attack, like me.

wbbaxterbones

"proved"

If he proved that, then GM's wouldn't be playing d4 at high levels. The last World Championship match was exclusively d4/Nf3

Iamcleverbot

I'm just reporting what I heard, I'm probably wrong.
