Is this cheating or what ?

I have just played a guy  - ****** - . We had a drawn position between us and I offered same, but he declined. The position was repeated umpteen times as the notation will show, but the system did not allow for and result this as a draw by repetition.

The result came down to whose button operated the clock quicker and in that it became frenetic and my mouse slipped.  The beauty of the game of chess was spoiled for me by a piece of outrageously bad sportsmanship.

Is there not a method of review after a game ?  Should there be as he should be deprived of the win !!

Don't play X 0 blitz.  Play with an increment.  Also, doesn't the system detect threefold?

I am not sure on this site but I believe you need to claim the 3x repetition by clicking the draw button.

1. He's not cheating, no one is forced to agree to a draw.

2. Draws through repetition have to be claimed, no automatic award is made. Did you claim a draw?

I share the same query with Equaliser769, in my case I claim a draw because of repetition but it was ignored. Another thing which is rather more outrageous is when you have the a clearly drawn position such as  in the case of having bishops of unlike color and you are very much ahead in terms of clocktime so you expect that the best thing your opponent can do is to offer a draw...but instead the game continue on...with your time eaten up so fast while that of your opponent is not even moving and eventually you lost on time forfiet...what an outrageous playing experience...i try not to think that nobody can really manipulate the clocktime and that nobody is a "time cheat" but why is this happening so often? Is there a selected few that granted such kind of priviledge? I love to play chess and respect whoever is my opponent...but only when chess is played within the context of sportmanship...Though I still hope that nobody is a "time cheat" so we can continue on and enjoy playing chess...Thanks.

I hate to say this but it's called survival of the fittest. It's not fair or sportsmanshiplike but it's still a way of winning no matter how desperate or dirty it looks. Please don't hate me for saying this.I understand but just think about it

you have to click the button to claim the draw.

Somehow, I can understand Last_Sire03 comment. But still believe that we need to promote the spirit of Sportmanship in here...especially when we are playing the live chess...it's the only way that we can truly appreciate the joy of winning a game of live chess...Sportmanship above all, it's more than winning. I confess, that sometimes when I feel cheated Ican't help but express my frustration such as saying "what a bad game"...which I konw is uncalled for...yet an approriate reaction to an "unsportmanshiply" attitude of my opponent...anyway whatever it is...let's us all uphold the spirit of Sportmanship so we can continue and enjoy playing live chess. Thank you guys for your comments.

You have to press the Draw button after the three fold repetition

ilikeflags

awesome how many times people have and will tell this ddue that he has to claim the draw.

clivebeesley

nd show him what your made of. let your moves do the talking.not you!

I do agree however  he is perpetrating a locomotory inexactitude!.

Equaliser769

To Schachgeek - the normal rules of chess cover draw by repetition after three moves; to everyone suggesting pressing the draw button, I did - several times - but nothing happened.

At least it has been good to see a number of players who agree on the game being played in the right way !

furtiveking

If you really did press the draw button, then you need to contact support and tell them about it. But Im guessing that you didn't click it at the right time, as claiming a draw by threefold repetition has always worked for me in the past.

"At least it has been good to see a number of players who agree on the game being played in the right way !"

We all agree about the game being played in the right spirit but the example you cited is simply not cheating. All games are defined by their rules, not something you can change to please yourself.

Niven42

Just get on with your life.  I know it's frustrating, but you're not any worse off because of it.  You're still the same Chess player you were before the game.

Equaliser769

There have been times when I have not been pleased by drawing through repetition - as you say, `all games are defined by their rules'
