hello again, just a story that just doent seem right...

Recently i was playing an unrated game with my dad (moo_loo) on chess.com and i wasn't in the best position. As i was playing my dad i decided to delay my moves as long as possible, So on one of my moves i had 1 day left, i decided to delay moving till the next day. Unfortunatly i couldn't get on the computer for two days, BUT i didnt worry as i am a paying member so i have timeout protection!!! lol boy was i wrong. I timed out! which really isnt that bad as i havent lost rating points but i have another loss next to my name! Could you explain to me about that? like doesnt timeout protection apply to unrated games? cheers

I was just wondering about whether timeout protection triggers for unrated games.  What a timely post!  Smile

I don't think members have timeout protection. Actually, "time out protection" doesn't exist in chess. Losing on time = losing.

FreeCat,

Premium members have a feature which automatically switches the user to vacation status before timing out.  Apparently it only works for rated games.  Good to know!

Status of unrated games fairly recently downgraded( ie can't remember when!)  - for example no longer figure in "best win" statistic {which may be controversial anyway}I used to have a genuine best win in eighteen hundreds from one  exceptionally "lucky"game .ONE that is , full of Benevolent Converging CoIncidences - I can only play lottery chess as it was called in a recent thread  and of course Malevolents also occur !

Hello, feyterman and others.I am a newbe in here ,but your question and the following discussions got my attention and interest. So,as some say that there is such protection in unrated games and others dont,I was wondering when it is considered that a player is in a vacation statuse/mode,as if it appears that he/she is on a game. On my opinion, playing a game, its impossible to be switched of on the mentioned statuse. Please, some comments on that whether I am wrong or right about it and if someone can answer my question, related with the topic,is most welcome.

Interesting post - I didn't realise that timeout protection doesn't work for unrated games. Who cares though?

To be fair to Eric, feyterman, posting a message on this forum isn't contacting technical support as Eric suggested. You may get a member of staff seeing this post and reply to it, but really you should contact technical support; see contact at bottom of this screen. I did that for something a few weeks ago and I found technical support to be very timely and helpful.

Some quirky anomalies still exist here and there but to be fair it is down to programming problems and work  load  priorities.

Thanks for making us all aware of this problem, feyterman. We can now take the necessary precautions! It will be interesting to see whether anyone else has encountered this - and whether there was anything unique about your set up, such as the length of time you logged out before the timeout occurred; were you using the same computer as your father, etc. The more details that can be fleshed out, the better chance Support will have of isolating the problem.

Based on what you said, it would appear that unrated games to not work at this time. I'm not sure if this is intentional or if this is the way it's supposed to be. I will find out.
