Undo Chat

Is there anyway to "undo" or remove a line of text you put in the chat box where you talk to your opponent while you're playing?

no, but there should be. It would be a great addition to the site.

Do you think there might be people out there who would "infiltrate" chess.com and try to get personal info from other players through casual, seemingly innocent chat over a game of chess and then use the information for something bad like identity theft or something?

Why would a total stranger ask what my middle name is?

I hope it's not as bad as identity theft, but I don't think you are paranoid because there is good cause to be cautious.

we don't have an UNDO, but we do have a DISABLE chat that hides it all.

I would be careful either way!

I thought about it and concluded that my opponent was just making friendly conversation, and I sent him a message which included my middle name.

I feel so much better now that I'm not paranoid.

What's the world coming to when we can't just talk to each other?  If it comes back to haunt me, so be it.  At least I am without guile and there's love in my heart.

But many thanks to Erik for hipping me to the fact that disabling the chat hides it all.  Handy to know for future.

I can't see any reason someone needs to know your middle name for any legal, ethical reason, just politely say you don't give out that info online. There are too many creeps out in cyberspace (even here) to not protect yourself.

i "accidentally" hit disable chat twice! I was inthe middle of a conversation....salty that i can't undo the disable!
