Must be tough on you Spanish-speaking players... I mean, If I said "bj" to someone after a game, they would really get offended.

Erm, to be strictly literal, gg means 'Good game'. How you interpret it is your own choice I guess. (Personally, I say gg after every game, win or lose, if the opponent said anything or not. *shrug*)

Come on. Most people use "gg" to annoy people they won against. Most games called "gg" are definately not good games.

I have always taken this statement to be a sign of good sportsmanship eversince I got to know what it stands for.I must admit that I was one of the guys who felt offended whenever my opponent would send me those 2 letters because I was mistakening them for ''gone game" and it would make feel bad but my attitude has since changed.

On the contrary there are people who never want to lose and I think this can never happen in any game or sport. So always take every result in good faith and find it in your self to conglatulate your opponent and to me tghis is the way to go.

I just thank my opponent for the game. Time is pretty valuable.

Then there are those that leave their turn signal on all the time and....drag their seatbelt along the road outside their door.

lol, this topic is sad. the fact of the matter is that if you are such a person that gets annoyed from a few letters printed on a screen, then you cannot be helped by anyone.

STOP BEING ANNOYED BY LETTERS ON THE SCREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DAMN IT !!@&*^&%^!!!(&^%&^!

How is it arrogant to say gg? I often say it, and when I do I mean it. I consider it more of a thank you for playing the game. Then again, that is just my interpretation.

Avatar of sodayodadude

winners should never say "gg" first. It's obviously ment as an "I own you"

Don't you just love all these people who know exactly what everyone else in the world is thinking?

The thread isn't about 'gg' it's about manners. Many more than twelve pages have been written about the same.

Yes that is true, but the problem here is they have a selective hearing.

Hilarious!   I've been laughing for 15 mins now...lol

Seriously though...  I've started saying "gg handshake" attempting to clarify my intent, which has yet to receive a negative reply.  I've had a few "no replies",  but nothing negative thus far.   Good sportsmanship starts with me, not my opponent.   If he lost the game he's probably not feeling too fond of me or himself, so it only makes sense to try and clarify a "gg" with a "handshake" also.

For those who find "gg" offensive after losing a game....how would "gg handshake" be received in the same setting?

Avatar of Azukikuru

I think this is a serious problem. Just a few days ago, I played a rather interesting game against someone (and won even after some mistakes), and I decided to throw in a "gg" afterwards. It was actually the first time I did so, and I did it because I'd seen other people say "gg" to me after losing (to which I usually answer something like "thx"), and I took it as a gesture of mutual good will. The guy didn't reply.

Naturally, I had to check twice that it wasn't the same guy who had started this thread.

Sure, some people might use it as a taunt, but I'm pretty sure most don't. So, this is where the problem is: even if someone is trying to be friendly, they end up being interpreted as a jerk, and once this false interpretation is adopted, no effort is made to rectify it. The "taunted" loser is happy to have a reason to be angry at the winner, because it justifies his negative feelings, of which one should usually be ashamed if they're only caused by losing. Furthermore, the guy who only tried to be friendly gets no feedback, and thinks he had done a polite thing - thus, the whole thing repeats itself over and over again.

People need to meet halfway to establish some common ground. Tell your opponent that you consider saying "gg" offensive, or they'll never learn. Or then search deep within yourself to see if this "rudeness" isn't all in your head.

after losing a game i dont wanna hear Anything, from Anyone...i usually need a 10min cool down period, but gg is very polite...could be Much worse!

Dude, this is the internet, if you're going to get your panties all in a wad because you think somebody may or may not be insulting you, then you need to suck it up and grow a pair.
