Yes, that is what they are. Reflexmate / reflexchess is interesting for several reasons. For instance, it has a high potential for creating SPGs, retro logic problems and purely retro-analytical problems. I predict that it will even overtake the orthodox retro forms in popularity one day.

In fact, this might be a great new area for aspiring retro-composers like Remellion. No competition YET but packed with new opportunities. Reflexchess is easily extendible into 2-Reflex or n-Reflex "the obligation to mate in 2 moves or n moves if such is possible". May be the best thing is that Reflexchess is more natural to chess players than orthodox chess in retro-problems featuring loads of crazy moves. Now you can tell them that the fictional players were weak but at least they wouldn't miss a mate in 1 (or 2 or n). Brings it a little closer to the world of ordinary chess!
