f4 probably is a draw. After the king moves the knight can take the bishop leaving RvN. The knight can join up with the king and that is generally drawn.

I don't see any chance of getting the pawn home.

Sorry - mistype. I've corrected. Also corrected (deleted) the comment, but I think anything but 1...RxR loses for Black. If 1...Ne6 then b8N+. Anything but 2...RxQ also looks losing.

The answer of #40 is presumably not 1...Qxb1 when, in the absence of a white king, Black can no longer mate.

I think the puzzle might be slightly cooked by the way.
