100 years from now
I think that providing we refrain from self annihilation that things in a hundred years will be pretty rosy. I think the two main fields that will revolutionise the way we live, are robotics (including computing) and medicine. I think in perhaps 50 -100 years that we will have millions of humanoid like robots as our slaves. They would do all the manual work including building and maintaining themselves.
The non necessity for anyone to do menial work will increase the amount of time that that we can dedicate to the sciences and arts, which will could cause great cultural advancement.
The ability to grow new organs would bring up life quality and expectancy significantly.
We will be mining other planets for resources and so our own won't become so stretched.
| thats all true but theres more people working there arse off then there is in government! they may have more more money but we all still appreciate the things we have more than they ever will! in 100 years there will be no war on terror only control over the common wealth! |
I don't understand what your saying, the money Governments have is our money and they waste it. There will still be war on terror because we will still not have learnt to live, understand and care for each other. There will still be ars%%4"2> who think we should live the way they want us to, because they think our way is not good. And what do you mean Common Wealth? Governments have control of the common wealth!!!!!
Has anyone here read Orwell's "1984" or Huxley's "Brave new world"? They are both predictions of the future world and both told of totalitarian states. I imagen our world to be simular to those told in the novels; the government controlling everything for the "greater good". Perhaps we are already slipping into that...
I've read 1984, but I don't think that's quite where we're headed. IMO, all of the inventions will enable greater security and eventually complete control over terror, maybe not in the next 100 years, but someday.
"Things wil not have moved on very far. If you think about the last 100 years in real terms what have we that is so much better?"
queenie, look at what we were like 100 years ago! 100 years ago, there was no such thing as artificial electricity. Today, you'd be surprised to see someone who doesn't have it, unless they're homeless. Many more people died from diseases then than they do now, and in 1918, that was the only year the US population decreased (I'm not sure about anywhere else in the world). We haven't had a plague since then, to the best of my knowledge.
You say that we have unacceptable poverty and that poor people still won't be able to afford medical treatment in 100 years. Poor people are poor because they can't get a job. Can't, or in a lot of cases, won't, at least in the US. We have Medicare, and poor people don't have to pay at all. XP Really bad for the doctors who actually work for their money! We also have a system where the poor people get paid a certain amount of money per month, so a lot of them don't even try to get jobs.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that there are poor people out there who honestly try to get jobs and make a living for themselves. I'm just saying that a lot of poor people are lazy and live off government money, which is probably what the government wastes its money on.

I just noticed that pretty much everyone in this forum is from the U.K. Sorry if some of my views don't apply.

if every working class person stood up and said im not paying our taxes the world would fall to its knees! the war on terror would not continue as we know it because its a war of control. in 100 years there will always be people be who want what there havent got and any decent person wolud have to go out and earn what they want out of it only for governments to say thats mine. just take a look at africa!
have you every read aninmal farm by george orwell where the animals drive out the farmer and the horse does the work only for the pigs to take over? there will always be people who like to order people around and take control!
and when i said commen wealth i meant things that belong to us!
if theres no such such thing as government money how is the health service run how is the local police and fire service run? explain that one queenie? the countrys you stated are poor for a reason its because of greedy people who want to control things! |
That is all true, but 100 years is a long time and what you are describing are current problems but that does not mean those problems are not solvable. As was previously mentioned, the world was a far more brutal, unorganised and diseased place a century ago than it is now. I believe that progress is exponential. In 100 years we have achieved more than we did in the previous thousand and in the next 50 we can possibly achieve more than we did in the past hundred.
As much as the world has its evils now, I think that most are the result of greed and struggles for survival. This could end when everyone has plenty. Granted this will take time and it may not happen in a hundred years (although I believe it will) I think it will happen.
In five hundred years from now I think we may have reached the point where we can ensure the infinite (or as long as the universe is habitable at least) survival of the human race, as we begin colonising other solar systems.

Queenie will explain wayne. Where does the government get the money from to run the health service, and other services? It comes out of the taxes we pay on our salaries. The fire brigade is paid for by local government from the rates we pay to them. You pick up my point exactly, yes many people in this world suffer, because evn after the past 100 years, the have's have not learnt to give to the have nots.

there have been so many inventions, and changes in the way people live, over the past hundred years. Of course no one really knows, but if you had to make a guess, what will living in the world 100 years be like? what will an average day be like, as compared to now. What will be better about life? worse?
