From Yoko Ono's imaginepeace.com:

CHESS SET FOR END OF AN ICE AGE

The chess board is an area of soil surrounded by a wooden frame.
The chess squares are demarcated by string or rope criss-crossing above the
soil, attached to the wooden frame.
Place one seed in the soil in each chessboard square.
The chess pieces are all identical pieces of ice.
Play until you forget which pieces of ice are yours, or until the ice melts,
watering the seeds below.
Let the Spring rains finish the game.

How do you tell who's pieces are whose?  Maybe some black paint is needed, and some for half the squares as well.

I suppose anything aggressive, like captures or check, isn't allowed.

So we're just playing dollies with chess pieces.

And then blow the crap out of them with machine gun fire.
