Typically my chess dreams are pains of novelty moves gone bad.
Chess Dreams

After about a year of playing chess regularly I had my first chess dream. It was very vivid and the position on the board was realistic and I made a few moves.
A year later I had another chess dream. But neither one helped me solve any particular problem from one of my own games or from the Tactics Trainer.
I have read quite a few stories about chess masters that have dreamed about games they had played that day and how they might have won the game. So, their dreams did help them solve a chess problem.
This is a very interesting topic to me.
Thanks for making a thread about it Blue.
Lawdog.
i cannot return to a dream, however, i have on several occassions realized during the dream that it is a dream- and yes, at that point you can in essence change the dream. Dreams are typically very short, so you don't have much time.

Thank you NomadicKnight. Am wondering... did you work through some chess problems in your sleep?
Well, let me put it this way: Yes, I worked through some current chess problems from my correspondence chess, but did I do it correctly? Doubtful!

Yeah, I have had chess nightmares like if I Lose, I die, and I lose the game and right when they execute me I wake up

Yeah, I do seem to always wake up at that crucial moment of a dream.
I guess the psyche cannot tolerate being killed.

I just had one today where I was playing a game in Live Chess, I'm in a winning position, and the guy goes crazy in the chat, namecalling, yelling, just annoying me and totally ruining my focus... If I could just focus I think I have the game won in the next two moves, so I go to disable chat to shut this guy up AND I CAN'T FIND THE DISABLE CHAT BUTTON!
And yes, I seriously did have this dream today. Very vivid, as the layout of the site was completely accurate... ALL EXCEPT FOR THAT DISABLE CHAT BUTTON! I just couldn't find it! I woke up at that point, and my first thought was "Okay, I spend WAY too much time on chess.com if I'm starting to get dreams like that!"
How's that for a chess dream?

The Disable Chat button turns out to be a bad dream.... I think we all have had to use it a time or two. LOL

I still from time to time have dreams with chess.com in them... However, I fortunately no longer have the nightmare of not being able to find and hit the "Disable Chat" button... HMMMM.. Maybe it's a sign of improving my game? (I've gone up 300 points since that one nightmare). LOL
Recently I dreamt of an Online Game I was engaged in. Sure enough, after I woke up and got rid of Mr. Sandman, I logged on and saw that the sacrifice move I had in my dream was indeed part of the game I was playing... Perhaps when I fell asleep I was running the game through my mind, but it was quite surprising to wake up and see the move I had just dreamt of was right in front of me! (I lost the game, though... Oh well, I suppose that's just an awake version of a chess nightmare)

Never happened to me with chess. I've solved problems that were bugging me, from algorythms to everyday things (not often, maybe once every so many years) but never chess.

Dreamed chemistry problems.... solved it in my sleep. hahaha. I had spent quite a few hours deep in the math then went to bed. Was shocked when i woke to have dreamed the answer to one that had been giving me trouble. Was just wondering if any of you dream about chess... I honestly don't know enough about chess to be able to dream about solving a problem in it.
I didn't think that was possible, but I've been known to be wrong before. Maybe they have a much sharper mind than most.
