Just how long is your quality of life going to last? My father died literally from drowning from the infection (puss) in his lungs that could not be pumped out fast enough. He died horribly at 72 (his father and uncles who did not smoke lived into their 80's). His shortness of breath started in his mid 60's and was wrned to stop his 3 pack a day habbit. I remember him always having to sleep in the easy chair in the living room (last 7-8 years of his life) because he could sleep with head up and he was much closer to the bathroom... he could not walk even short distantces (with oxygen) without gasping breath.

This was all because of the habbit you George are embracing now...

How many cigerattes do you smoke a day?

I am sorry to hear about ur father. I smoke about 30 a day and started at 30. Hasn't caused any side effects as of yet. I have always believed (hopefully) if my fitness were to suffer or any health issues raised their ugly heads, i would stop.

Until such time, i see it as 1 life and i enjoy it. : )

Why would a superior species, that already has our dna code, if they put us here, want to harvest our dna?

I am also in the medical field (physical therapy) and have worked with many patients (mostly elderly) who have smoked for years and those who have not. The difference in their over all health stands in sharp contrast.. . smokers have the hacking "smokers" cough, are way more often use a portable oxygen units and have far less healthy hair, skin and nails. They are far more likely to be sick. George... 30 cigs a day will catch up to you... eventually. Dont believe me?... Do you have any eldery smoking friends? Go visit them... ask them when they started feeling worse because of this habbit.

You can try any number of over the counter products that help you lil by lil quit... but it really helps if you have a support group... even just one other person who is determined to quit... someone who have accountability to...help each other not lose the focus of achieving the goal.

Just don't use nicabate remedies. They were specifically designed to keep the smokers spending and keep the drug nicotine in the body. Eventually the smoker starts again and the companies, goverments etc don't lose out by to much.

I do utilize ciggies as a treasured habit to enjoy. You can be busy, bored etc....When you smoke. Eveerything is just that little better. : )))

When I was 13 I had to leave a chess club because bystanders blew thick cigar smoke in my face to put me off playing. Each week I had a red sore throat for 2 days.

So no, I'm not filled with either  empathy for the denizens of puff puff land or an understanding of their motivations for their dirty, stinky, polluting habit.

I am 50 years old. I decided 10 years ago to try to do my best to be in as good a shape as i can physically so I can have a better chance to enjoy my life as i get older. My father died before he met my future wife and of course his future grandchildren. All they have are storys and pictures... not him.

Two years ago a long time club member and smoker (Dave), past away from emphysema at a hospice house. I remember he would alsway go outside between games to have a "cigie". He was 67. I remember the last tournament he participated was the Florida Senior Games in which I was one of the TDs. He could bearly make it into the tournament room gasping for breath. In my later life (which is not too far off) I dont want to be that way... certainly not in my 60's.

George?... does your family smoke?... dad, mom or uncle and aunt? How about and any grandparents? If you want to know "about" what kind of shape you will be in as a smoker in your later years.. you might want to look at those in your family that are smokers that are older than you.
