The h1n1 flu killed 50million people in 1920. Now we are quite immune to it.

Thee_Ghostess_Lola

Covid will be like flu eventually, I guess, when we all  have suffered it so our blood has the antibodies to make the coronavirus harmless

I´m sorry to object to your hope that antibodies would be able to get rid of Corona-19.  (however, I also hope that scientists will find out as soon as possible how they can use antibodies in this pandemic.)

Antibodies in the corona-infected human body do not behave in the same way as with a common flu. The medical scientists are facing a virus whose quality does not match some other viruses. Not every infected person develops antibodies. And you don´t know how long antibodies will work sufficiently.

Using herd immunity to combat the Corona pandemic is like a dangerous gamble at this moment.

I was looking for a source of information in English that I can trust. I could find only a scientific report. I hope it is not too long.

Almost 20 million cases worldwide now, and over 5 million in the US.  But it could still be a hoax, right? wink.png

Confused-psyduck

Must be those liberal reptilians trying to undermine the great work Trump has done for the great people of America. If people had listened to him, America, the best country in the world, would have been rid of the virus already. But that is obvious liberals just want Biden elected at all cost.

(this is of course not my opinion)

If we had listened to Trump, this virus would be a "hoax." It would be about to disappear "like a miracle." And we would still believe China was being "perfectly transparent, and remarkably effective in controlling it."

Confused-psyduck

Well, transparent, no, I mean that is China, transparency has not been known for a very long time. However, and no matter what people feelings are towards China, the virus has been controlled somewhat quickly in here. I mean, that has already been months since we have worn masks outside (Wearing a mask in the subway and in the bus is still compulsory though), and while it is possible that there are surges in the province of Xinjiang and around Beijing (a huge lockdown had been put in place, I do not know what the situation is now), the rest of the country seems to be fine.

Sarcasm aside...(and I am letting "liberal reptilians" sit because you clearly meant it sarcastically, but it's the exact kind language that will cause trouble)

Watch out for your ratio of political to outbreak content wink.png...I know it's effectively the same, but referring to the president's actions more by his role as president during the pandemic, and not by political leanings, helps keep this topic open.  Similarly, just staying completely away from liberal vs. conservative is important.

For everybody:  Show, don't tell, is the key.  You can post something from the news that many people might find shows a government official in a poor light *regarding the outbreak*, and you can comment on how poor an idea is, or an action is, etc.  You can say you are unhappy with how things are going, and you can comment on leadership *decisions* you consider dubious.  What you can't do is just say "so and so is a liberal/conservative idiot" and the like.  You can't attack a person's or group's politics.  The closer to the latter end of the spectrum the posts go, the more likely that moderators step in.

Okay:

"Here's a story about the president telling people that injecting themselves with bleach might do something to combat the virus.  I strongly disagree, and I think it shows a lack of responsible leadership for somebody, anybody, to say this in a national press conference.  I am unhappy that so many politicians seem to be ignorant of science these days..."

Not okay;

"Trump just told people to inject bleach into their lungs...what a Darwin award winner.  All conservative politicians seem to have barely passed 5th grade science classes.  This is typical GOP behavior.  Red state residents are the underlying cause of all the country's woes..."

or:

"Libtards are at it again...the president is just tossing ideas out there, anybody can speculate, right?  Birx did not directly contradict him.  Fauci is another story, he's a deep state operative working in secret for the Clinton Foundation,  Pelosi hides human remains in her recycling.  RGB is kept alive by top secret means using Bill Gate's nanochips.  Stop the secret assassinations!  QAnon forever!"

Italy not done a whole lot better with this pandemic, than the US has.

While they have had far fewer cases/capita, than the US has had, Italy still had more Covid deaths/capita.

Sure, I meant no trouble. I am not supporting any political faction anyway. But since you ended with the sarcastic "but it could still be a hoax right wink.png" I just though I could follow on your trail, I was just having fun, it was in no way ill-intentioned.

Thee_Ghostess_Lola

the absolutely hilarious logic glitch is that state governors have been put in charge of how they handle C-19 cuz theres no fed mandate. yet we have interstate planes, trains, & automobiles (& dont 4git motorcycles yee !) freely going from point A to B THRU STATES. and yet they say governors cannot shut down interstate travel without a fed mandate ?

uhhh....doh ! (4hd slap)....duhhh....lets see now....can u say "our logic is meltdown-pathetic" ??

True enough, but all the writer was saying is that the US was *the* model for how to handle things that people around the world looked up to before, and that illusion has been shattered by how the US is acting now (which seems like an obvious conclusion as this point happy.png)...not that they were better than us.

The Terence Higgins Trust, a sexual health charity, has advised that those engaging in intercourse with someone outside their household should wear a mask and avoid kissing. I guess some will be happier to follow this advice than others...
