Do you give homeless people money? Do you help them somehow?

When you encounter homeless people asking for money do you give it to them? (Why/why not?)

Have you ever provided services for those less fortunate than you?  (How?  Why?)

in my city, homeless people tend to be violent and work in groups. they use children to make you feel an horrible person. most of the time they don’t do anything if there are tourists or policemen. i prefer donating my clothes and provide useful stuff to charity

I once met a homeless guy, who tried to sell me drugs. I wrote down the number for NA (Narcotics Anonymous) and gave it to him.

Several months later, I ran into him again. He was sober, had a regular job and was attending NA meetings with his sponsor on a regular basis.

True story.

I don’t give money - doesn’t help them worth a damn, in my opinion.

I have given money but usually I do not.  I give food and clothing.  I've helped with some soup kitchens and  programs that provide services (like showers and haircuts).

Here's one store owners opinion of the homeless people near his store and what he does. He has classical music playing constantly.

The people are dubbed over but the story was real.  I remember when that hit the news.  I don’t know if it was any of these but I went to a store that was doing this.  They eventually stopped because the city threatened to fine them for noise violations.
