God count: Zero, One, or Many?

I've always wondered how people enumerate their Gods. One & three are popular in much of the world. Zero seems to be the consensus of many of my younger friends (as is my belief, to be honest). But how about you thoughtful persons? Is this worth discussing?

trysts

I'd say there are many gods which are imagined to existWink

But an imagined one, isn't one, or is it? What makes a "God", real, and in what sense?

By this I mean that there are many ancient beliefs, some with supporting texts, most with what appears to be handed down knowledge. Much of the latter, and former perhaps, seems almost tribal (was in my family).

bordlyron

So what makes one real.

I guess a god is real for people if it empowers them or gives them comfort? For me, a god is real if it actually shows up on this planet. I still wouldn't worship it, though.

There is much of which I am ignorant. For instance, the Hindu religion has many gods. Are they worshipped, as Yahweh is by some religions, or is there a different perspective in this, and perhaps other multi-deity religions?

Trysts: good point. I would need a lot of proof, even if one shows up here. Arthur C. Clark once wrote (paraphrase) that if one civilization has a science far advanced than another, the lesser one would have trouble distinguishing it from magic.

Yahweh is a silly-sounding name for a god. The Greeks had better names for their gods;)

True, I read about a tribe in Africa, I believe, which saw a man write a note to another man to bring him a hammer. Once the note was passed, and the other man followed it's directions, then the tribe thought the writing instrument--a pencil--had magic powers in it.

One day you will die, then what do you think happens after that?

i tell you that then you will know that God is REAL!

That's going a bit too far for evidenceLaughing

no matter how far, the day is certainly coming for you and everyone else, bet your life on it!

trysts

Can I bet something more expensive than my life? How about $50.00?

Reality is not a belief.

So your belief of Zero Gods is not reality for you?

There has been hundreds of "Gods" recorded throughout history.  I will have to agree that if one believes in a "god" then it is real for them.

you may trivialise about God now, and for the rest of your dying life, but God has the final say in your destiny beyond this short passing phase called life

Zero gods is indeed my belief. To those who claim I will learn the "truth" after my death: wrong discussion. Please either address the topic, or go away. Your threats don't matter here, at least to me.

Or they're being dishonest. Do those televangelists really believe in gods, for instance? Can we really tell if a person really believes in gods or not, no matter what they say?
