on a more serious note, if the site is going to allow mods/staff to randomly discern which avatars are allowed, it allows discretion that is beyond the pale.

Getting rid of avatars would be a step towards improvement in my opinion. Completely unnecessary and wouldn’t miss them. I’m glad i play on my iPad, the avatars are so small i barely see them. 😉

Of course removing them would start an avalanche of “CC is so unfair bruh” and “I’m leaving, the oppression of CC is too heavy”, or “This is a violation of my free speech rights” threads.

They could offer six avatars to choose from. All dopey cartoon characters. That’s what they do on chesskid.
Cc focuses in the social aspect, so it's unlikely they get rid of avatars.

Well the mods are just laughing at me. Guess if you can't beat them ...
It's like I'm a guest in their hotel wearing a t-shirt with a logo that my neighbors found offensive and the hotel staff just defaced it while I was sleeping instead of telling me to get changed and why.

perhaps it's all very complicated.
But more likely just a knee jerk reaction to easy-to-act-on reports. If there's a kind of jerk i don't like, it's a knee jerk.

i happen to have a few that i think should past muster. of course, someone will need to explain this phrase to mods and staff. i mean, a member that (gasp) speaks their mind?!?
