Of course, I could play all of them now, if I only had enough time left in my life. :-)
Making text adventure game. Any story ideas?

Eh, I'm not sure I want to go back to the early days of IF with all the nasty mazes, unwinnable states, and a thousand deaths, lol.

which is why i'd recommend the more modern unnkulian series ;-) in the graphic adventure world lucas arts used to make fun of sierra for their easy "deaths"

They're on my IF bucket list, which unfortunately seems to be growing at an alarming rate. I'll never get to the entire list; I'll have to prioritize.
For a while, I was ignoring all TADS games. Then I discovered the QTADS for Linux interpreter, and now the entire TADS world has opened up for me.
EDIT - Apparently, the unnkulian series was going to be released as a commercial CD, but the project fell through. It's nice that the two Davids later released the series as freeware. The Digital Antiquarian (Jimmy Maher) has a lengthy writeup on the series. He talks about how polished the games were, but then he puts a bit of a damper on the discussion by opining that the authors seemed to think that they were wittier than they really were. Cheez mentioned a lot for some reason, lol. (Ouch)

the original classic is colossal cave adventure followed by zork in the late 70s.
Zork 🥰

monster rules universe, defenderpug and his friends (assassin) embark on quest, start recruiting players, build base, train them etc (the usual) to help put an end to the reign of the evil monster

shipwrecked on island, try to stay alive while battling monsters, hunting for treasure, making new friends etc

A good text adventure game doesn't have to have a great plot, as long as everything else is done well. Especially for someone's first game.

@Pug, if you finish the TA game, be sure to give us a link.
I found a guy who converted a number of old commercial games (Zork, Level 9, etc.) to Scratch, but most of them were broken due to a new version of Scratch (ver 3.0?). The Scott Adams interpreter still seemed to work, but the resolution of the text wasn't all that good.
I guess he just wanted to convert those games to Scratch for the challenge, since you can play those games in much better interpreters than Scratch.

Start off at bottom of huge maze dungeon full of monsters, get up all one hundred floors to escape, each floor has boss.

Yeah the 3.0 update made some other games unplayable.

Yeah, I never played those. I could kick myself for missing out on the entire Infocom era.
