Minor Linux Victory

I know, nobody cares about Linux. But I was getting burned out on the tranny thread, so I decided to post about a minor victory I had today with Linux.

A number of times in the past, I'd managed to completely lock up my PC by accidentally filling up my RAM space. I mean, completely locked, nothing responds. No keyboard response, no mouse response - Even the clock stops. Nothing. So I always have to just push the power button and kill the PC, which I know is risky for the hard drive.

I did a bit of digging and *finally* found the magic key combo to reboot a frozen Linux OS. It was from FOSSwire: "Fix a Frozen System with the Magic SysRq Keys".

You have to hold down the Alt key and the SysRq (Print Screen) key with your pinkies, then type REISUB while still holding down the other keys (lower case worked for me; I'm assuming upper case would also work). Your hands have to be a bit of a contortionist, but it's doable.

I tested it, and it actually works! Another tool for my Linux mental toolkit...

Hmm, I don't know - I haven't watched that one.

I couldn't find that one, but a little Googling found that a lot of the Debian releases are named after toy characters in the movie. Something I didn't know, lol.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Yes, I'm familiar with the preachings of Richard Stallman. ;-)

I'm like most of us who just shorten it to Linux for convenience, even though we know it's not correct.
