You end up furious and heartbroken for them at the same time, and there's nothing to say and nothing left to do but lament that people can be that willfully ignorant.

Then, to top that off, nurses tried to go home and relax and decompress for the next shift only to have relatives and friends try to tell them that the pandemic is overblown, about how they refuse to wear masks, use sanitizer, cough at people as a joke, etc. I'm kind of surprised not a single healthcare worker "went postal" during this timeframe.

My friend eventually had to transfer to a small general practice, she just could take it all anymore. One less frontline responder...completely burned out only a few years after getting out of nursing school.

In a pandemic with almost 700 millions cases now, you can find almost any egregious behavior you like somewhere at some time.

I don't know why I am getting this notification 3 weeks later but you are missing the point. I had my own horrible experience with covid which showed the vaccine didn't work. Sure there are a few total conspiracy nutcase who refuses medical precautions of any kind, but the government took it way too far. You can't put people in prison for going to a park or breaking quarantine. You can't fire people from their jobs for not wanting to get a rushed vaccine right away when there is a shortage of nurses and pilots and civil service workers as it is. That is medical tyranny no matter what struggle stories you bring up. But your comment proves my point. It wasn't about caring for any individual people. It was about not to take up hospital bed, and not even about not taking up hospital beds for the patients sake, but just for the sake of not *overwhelming* the hospitals. If they really cared about patients in hospitals they wouldn't be firing needed doctors and nurses for not getting a F-ing vaccine, and wouldn't be laying off NYC doctors to save money when ER wait times are already 16 hours. Sorry but nothing justifies the insanity they put people through. Institute universal Healthcare, build a ton more hospitals that can actually accommodate patients. Give free college tuition to medical students instead of "gender studies". Funny you bring up hand sanitizer prices as what you said is exactly what the stores did, making hand sanitizer/lysol $15 and even now it is still $12! Nurses chose that job, they knew there was a chance of a pandemic at some point in this century. Neurosurgeons work 80 hour weeks in residency for 8+ years. The selective pity you feel is mind boggling. What about the people who had to work 2 jobs or eat only 1 meal a day because of the ridiculous lockdowns?? There was a case of a kid crying on a live "zoom" class in school cause she was hungry and her parents were laid off and they could barely afford food. I got the vaccine and still took up a hospital bed for 2 days. You got it backward buddy, the experience only made me regret falling for it even more.
