Symbolism of Chess Pieces

This may have been discussed a lot but I didnt find much in the forum search so I'm just posting my own topic. I'd like to know what sort of symbolism different people think of in relation to real life combat. For instance, I've always pictured the pawns as infantry, the knights as calvary (helicopters), the bishops as artillary/airstrike, the rooks as armor (tanks), the queen as spec ops/sniper division and the king is your civilian casualty. What sort of things do you think of as you play? Or are you the less theatrical type that doesnt require such allegory to enjoy the game?
