Are adjectives and nouns also pronouns? They haven't made any such self identification yet.

By far, most gender dysphoric/trans people have a biological sex. I’d just refer to them with the pronouns of their biological sex.

Please don't tell us how you are planning to ascertain this.

the complication of neopronouns is the biggest issue since it takes a bit of effort to get used to using them

for your first point, you’re talking about sex and not gender. sex is based off of your chromosomes and you can either be male, female, or intersex (there are many different kinds of intersex). gender, however, is far more abstract and can be perceived as a spectrum rather than a binary (hence, the term non-binary). gender is personal and no one but you can know your gender identity. gender and sex are often related, but they can differ depending on the person.

there’s also gender expression which is how masculine, feminine, or in the middle (androgynous) you are. a person can consider themselves a tomboy, but they’d still identify as a girl despite acting masculine. on the other hand, if someone was born as the female sex, but identifies (sees themself/feels like) as a boy, their gender identity would be a boy because that’s what makes them feel safe and comfortable. they might act feminine by personal preference, but nevertheless they’re still a boy. more specifically they would be a trans boy, and it would be the same vice versa with a trans girl who was born as the male sex and identifies as a girl.

i’m not offended, i just think it’s important to bring awareness to this stuff because a lot of transphobia comes from misunderstanding sex vs gender vs gender expression

i’m pretty neutral to them but it would be interesting to see other people’s opinions

Language doesn't define people - people define language. If people want to make up new words, that's fine.

I still use expressions like "forsooth and forsooth" and "confusticate and bebother these dwarves". Wait until I catch up to the present before pushing me into the future.

Okay what is happening here? I think people can use whatever pronouns they feel suit them.

I also feel like this really isn’t a super topic to discuss on a chess website because there are a lot of mixed feelings about it and we don’t want to start an online argument.

It's not about people using pronouns they like, it's more about asking others to use pronouns they don't like.

For example apparently @escherehcse is offended if someone asked them to use an uncommon pronoun.

There are more than enough kiddie topics. Go hide in one of those if you don't like to read full sentences.

Not offended. I just won't fulfill his request...

Or "her" request, presumably.

Or maybe you're only scared when it's a dude... maybe you're into it when it's a lady... I'm not here to judge.

No judging required, unless that's what you want to do. When I was learning my pronouns back in the dinosaur days, if the gender was unknown, you simply used the masculine term. I see no reason to change just because everyone these days is scared of being politically incorrect...

Yep, it's the old man curse "I don't like new things"

It sucks but the world changes as you get older... I don't always enjoy it myself...

I think that's why we can't live forever. Otherwise, we'd go insane. Anyway, these days I embrace my "old manness"...

Maybe that's a good way to do it. I don't know yet.
