What's The Deal With Microsoft Trying To Cram Windows 10 Down My Throat?

I have all these pop-ups wanting me to forget Windows 7 and get Windows 10 for free.

I have had people tell me that they did and that they are sorry now.

Nothing is free except Oxygen; at least for now.

I have Windows 7 on two different computers and there is a link at the bottom of page to upgrade to Windows 10. I ignore it but at least 4 times a week each Windows has a pop-up that tells you to upgrade to 10 for free.

eventually, though, we all have to upgrade, because microsoft ends up ditching all the support for older systems.

Better than shoving 10 Windows down your throat.

My reservation with upgrading is that I've been traumatized by too many bad computer experiences to risk it. What if I start upgrading and then I get a pop-up box that asks that I put in some huge number from the original Windows package I bought ten years ago? Where is that? How do I know it won't mess with other programs? I don't have any problems with this ancient Windows7 that runs this old laptop. The only incentive to upgrade is that Microsoft will one day stop upgrading and supporting these older programs, mainly because they're a bunch of worthless dicks. The desktop upstairs still runs on Windows ME.

Okay, so I am hearing that 10 sucks and I am forced to use it.

Look at this way Al, I bought a 2002 Chevy Silverado truck, so what if Chevy told me tomorrow that I have to upgrade to another Chevy truck because they don't want to bother with mine anymore. I would be pissed.

I breath everyday and I am not sick or unhappy. (except at Microsoft)

@ buicula  Yeah that's not good. So why don't you start your own thread about China's air pollution then send me a link to it. I promise I won't talk about Windows 10 on your thread.

I upgraded and it's a little confusing at first but you get used to it and I haven't had any problems so far. There are a few things I actually like better than the 7. I think you can even revert back to Windows 7 if you don't like 10.

I switched and switched back on my Windows 7 computer. It changed the location of a bunch of my stuff, and you will get a constant slew of upgrade adds. Windows is going to stop supporting 7 which may lead to some security issues, but I've never had a problem. The computer I'm using for this message is still running XP and it works fine for most stuff.

I hate getting confused. So my old clunker computers will still operate with the mouse and the keyboard or does is it operate like some kind of finger happy iPhone?

Avatar of Senior-Lazarus_Long

No,you will still be using your mouse.Speed of internet is a bit faster with 10,and I guess it's big plus is you can manage lots of your devices from 10,but I don't have my fridge hooked up to the internet yet. I didn't like all the ads.So I will get 10 on any new computers I buy. I'm leaving the 5 I already have the way they are. Cool

Totally agree. I'm just ignoring the pop-ups, at least until I have no choice. I have no clue about all this computer stuff, so I try to take it easy.

A bit off topic maybe, but the fact a truck can have such a cool name as Chevy Silverado is one of the reasons I like America.

I get those pop-ups too. Last fall my old old desk-top gave up the ghost and I was able to find a nice little lap-top on sale. This new unit has Windows 8 and they told I could upgrade to Windows 10 later. I tried doing that but it didn't work so I'll just stay with the older system ( but I still get the goofy pop-ups  lol ).

Bleck, you can have that Windows 10 if you want it; not me.  Yell

XP must be too far behind to get the pop ups.  Smile
