@Patszer I agree 100% with you! It would be amazing if the apps had a 3d board ability!! That would be incredible.

Was just about to post for a theme like that. It helps me with practicing playing a live game with a real life chess board. Looking at a 2D board feels kind of disconnected. I’m not sure if it’s just psychological, but when I play on the site with the real 3D board as opposed to the 2D board on the app I tend to adjust better when playing my neighbor at his house on his real board and pieces. I hope they are working on it soon.
I don't get it why work on the apps, iOS and Android appears to progress at a virtual snails pace! SO MUCH could be done to improve the apps. I am not saying work isn't being done, or that the apps don't have value...but change and features for the apps is very slow in the making or non existant. I mean an important function for daily game players--- being able to save one's self analysis moves --- is still not part of the apps. I have been asking for a year for that feature...which I don't believe is so difficult to code and create. Will we ever see a 3D board in the apps?? Who knows. Right now you still are better off using a mobile browser to use the chess.com site and make use of the many many features on the site you just can't get on the apps. I mean a basic thing like attaching a photo to a message still ain't possible in the apps.

I would sincerely appreciate it as well. I only play on the ios and android apps, as I do not have a PC. I love the look of the 3D chess board.
I would like to see this option as well within the app.
Worth noting, it does work of you use your web browser on you phone/tablet to access chess.com
3D board theme would really be awesome! It’s a needed perspective for chess players.

Wow it's been 4 years since the original post and still no 3d support on the app? I actually prefer the 2d board, but as some have noted here it creates an additional point of difference when translating to real life games.
Its in the app but hiden and only the pieces are 3d.
Go to themes then there is an Custom option then pieces style and the last 3 option is the 3d pieces

First off I would like to express my sincere thanks to all those involved in creating such a fine chess site. I think a good way to attract more members would be to add a 3D chessboard on the app like there is on the website. I am willing to bet that most members use a tablet to play on this site and would enjoy having the option of playing games on a simulated 3D chessboard to practice playing OTB games.
