Suggestion for Introducing Monetization on Chess.com for Eligible Players

Hello Chess.com team and fellow players, I’d like to propose a feature that could enhance the experience for dedicated and committed players on this platform – monetization for eligible players. This idea could provide more motivation for players to improve their skills and make chess a viable profession for those who meet certain requirements.

Suggested eligibility criteria for monetization:

  • Policy Compliance: Players must not have violated Chess.com’s policies, ensuring fair play and sportsmanship.
  • Rating Requirement: Players must have a minimum rating, for example, 1500 Elo or higher, ensuring that monetized games are competitive and challenging.
  • Game Participation: Players must have played a certain number of games, ensuring active participation and commitment to the platform.
  • Win Criteria: Only players who have won a certain number of games could qualify for monetization, maintaining high standards.
  • Premium Membership: Players must be subscribed to Chess.com’s premium membership, supporting the platform’s growth and investment.
  • Demonetization: If a player falls below any of the set criteria, such as rating or policy violations, they will be demonetized until they meet the requirements again.

How monetization could work: • Players will be paid for winning games only, creating an additional incentive for focused and skillful play. • This system could offer financial rewards based on factors such as the difficulty of opponents and the number of games won.

Benefits:

  • • It will motivate more players to work towards higher ratings and consistent wins.
  • • Encourage ethical and responsible gaming since policy violations will disqualify players from earning.
  • • Provide professional players or aspiring chess professionals with an additional income stream.

This system could revolutionize how chess is played on the platform, making it more competitive and rewarding for serious players.

I hope the Chess.com team and community will consider this suggestion. It has the potential to inspire many players to take their chess journey to the next level while also supporting the platform’s continued growth. Thank you for your consideration!

Interesting. I notice that you would not qualify to play in your own system since your rating is under 1500 (rapid) and you are not a premium member.

I have never seen the percentage of premium members to the total membership but I would guess that the excluded majority of non-premium members would have a problem with being excluded.

As a longtime chess player, I don't feel the need to wager money to make chess interesting to me. I just enjoy it.

It's an interesting proposal, but if one of the requirements for monetization is required to buy premium membership, doesn't it feel like putting the cart before a horse? Because imo people who can afford premium membership will not really care and people who care about measly amounts of money are people who are unable to buy premium membership, except chess.com can spend money like twitch or youtube to pay the monetization players, I doubt it chess.com able to do it.
