Why does this stupid new sidebar exist?

I have just found out that the sidebar is now customisable: a user can select and arrange favourite menu items above the More item and hide other menus under the More item. But what is the point to duplicate these custom menu items with pop-up menu items that do the same? For example I added the Forums item and when I hover the cursor over it:

You can double click the item in the main menu and it will open it. Top level menu items are categories as far as I'm aware.

Clicking each of these items once:

opens the forum. Hence the question: why duplicate?

Found out that's expected for a collapsed sidebar

I first thought a user could group menu items that way but no, it is just a single button within a single button. I also noticed that expanded sidebar does not create duplicate pop-up window but these four icons arranged horizontally below while all other menu items arranged vertically make me feel sad so I switched to the collapsed sidebar

I like new capabilities:

As for the connection bar:

Is there anyway to check my connection status before starting a live game? On the old UI, there was a connection status bar available to let me know if my connection was good before starting a live game.

That's not extremely useful anymore, before a game anyway, unless you're going to play a tournament. The system won't know what live server you're going to get connected to until you're paired with an opponent.

Let's hope the developers come up with some kind of indicator that we can use so we don't start a live game with a not so good connection to the live servers.

To add to the problem, I can't see the names of ANY of the forums posted in clubs now. So I can't just go through and delete the notifs for ones I don't want to look at.

you quite literally can.

  • Ultimately, matchmaking will remain the same and will not consider players’ locations. However, once you’re matched with someone else, we’ll select the best option between our four servers to host the game with the lowest latency possible.

I think there might be more than 4 servers now, but until you're paired the server is unknown.

Not the full name.

Or it was more problematic when I first got the sidebar.

Seems it got implemented today. I am just now seeing it. Feels like a Hodge podge piece of stinky carp.

I switched to dark mode and suddenly I thought everything was OK again...but now I can't read what people are posting very well.

Switching back to light mode, sacrificing the overall look, but at least reading what people are writing again.

As long as posters are changing their text color, text should be readable. navbar doesn't change that.

it looks great actually and you just have to hover over it and click one time, not that bad so adapt to it. also they probably took a lot of effort into it and your saying they need to be fired?
