Why must this whole site be unusable by the visually impaired?

This whole site cannot be used by visually-impaired people at all. A young friend of mine has something called Jaws for Apple I believe, but even with that he can't use this site at all. His goal is to become the first visually-impaired GM. Please make this site compatible with Jaws and other such software for the visually-impaired!

They don't explain what they were doing but they report they are working on improving accessibility. https://www.chess.com/article/view/chess-com-month-in-review-june-2021

Chess.com posted on Twitter about having added screen reading capability last year for the IOS app. They demonstrated it with a famous Italian singer, Andrea Bocelli, who is blind.
