All The Reasons We Hate V3!

Wait, why no photos in V3?

Yes, as SkyMarshal pointed out, V2 - game analysis is static, V3 analysis does not appear to be.

And, as Capt.Pike pointed out, even semi-frequent openings are not select-able in V3:  B17 (Caro-Kann: Karpov Variation) is something I enjoy starting off as.  No longer is it select-able in V3, where V2 still permitted it.

In V3, the background changes depending on who's or which club's page you happen to be visiting.  In some instances, that can be quite a challenge to the eye.

You can still get it through tournaments (not sure about the others); but its a headache. You go to Game Explorer (I think) then make the opening moves; when you have it where you want it, you can then copy the FEN and begin the tournament as a custom FEN position. I'm not sure if Custom FEN is available elsewhere though; but still, that's a lot of work to go through for something as simple as starting a tourney/match/etc with the B17: Caro-Kann: Karopov Variation or A04: Zuckertort.

On the upside, V3 will probably make me waste less time on the site.

Seconded

If enough people report the same thing as a bug, I'm pretty sure that would get the development team's attention.

I'm getting the impression you only wish to hear about bugs and do not appreciate feedback.

Here's the deal though: listening to customer feedback is important for YOU, not for us.

Just trying to brush off people giving feedback will accomplish nothing except cost you valuabe insight how your companies' efforts are being seen from the outside and causing frustration to those customers who take their own free time to gift you some free market research.

Asking those same customers to invest even more of their free time to say the same things again at a different place just because the company is too lazy to deal with the feedback here is not a good practice - neither for you, not for your customers.

It's lose/lose and should be avoided as a classic fail.

Maybe chess.com could provide a tutorial.  Nah.  Probably not.

I use a custom theme anyway--which I understand is unsupported in v3, and there's no intention of changing this--so if it just switches colors, that's kind of... not useful.

WAIT. Waaaaaaaaaaaaait wait wait wait wait wait. David, are you saying that if we flood the v3 bug report system we can indefinitely delay v3's release? :3

If a bunch of things are reported as bugs, that aren't bugs, I doubt it will do anything much.

I can't seem to find "recent content" links so finding this, the forum I started, was a pain in the neck; if you don't get alerts, good luck finding your old content!

For forum content, just use the My Topics link on the forum pages. I use it daily to keep track of stuff I have posted in.

As far as I am concerned, V3 is still unusable. It's clearly aimed at mobile device users, but still it's a bughouse deluxe UI.

At least the board is not jumping after every move in opening explorer, as it happens on V2.

V3 doesn't let me sort chess mentor courses like V2 does.  I am trying to study the courses from easiest to hardest.  Now how am I supposed to do that with V3 being forced soon?

Completely unrelated stuff, but why does cc restart the live chess servers every 3 days?!

Avatar of nimzomalaysian

Hey! What happened to photos?

For the moment I have nothing to add. I'm just reading with pleasure. All of the grumbles are justified and I'm sure I could come up with more.

Icons not words - taking time to understand what is going on

Harder to navigate (or just VERY unfamiliar)

Loss of intuitive sense of navigation (like Windows 7 going into Windows 8!)

It's been a while since I tried it but I have the recollection of trying to do in live chess, things that were so simple in v2 - and that I simply couldn't do in v3 - can't really remember which - but I do remember trying to do them, and having "unwanted function" just jump and get carried out instead of what it was that I was trying to do...

So no like.

And by the way, I made a v2 group! Join here if you agree with the idea of keeping v2:

I joined.

It is nice to create a group called

"V3: Is chess.com victim of  sabotage?"

I always think about that when I saw the complaints and when I use V3.

I think V3 is sabotage. Someone inside chess.com is paid by competitors to mess with this company.

Just saying.

I didn't think abou this angle, Marco - that might well be the case!

Otherwise it's hard to explain why anyone would take a loved platform and substitute it with an unloved one...

@CaptainPike,

"9. It Seems to use too much memory."

This is undeniable and the proof is that in all cases the response time on the V3 site is much higher regardless of the browser (Fierfox, google, chrome) or operating system (Windows, Android ...) !! ... I tried all the tests and the slowness of the new version is unfortunately confirmed !! ...: - ((
