Date-driven auto start for team matches

One of the biggest problems faced by team admins is in gettng an opposing team to lock their roster in a timely fashion. In simple "one on one" matches, this can be a pest, but when it comes to large-scale events like WL, EL and AL it is much more than that. The team admins are given a date and time by which they are to lock their rosters, but some admins just ignore this and go on adding players afterwards, to the disadvantage of the opposing team.

What I would like to suggest is that chess.com make a date-driven auto start facility available as an option for matches, just as it is for tournaments. The great benefit would be that the management of the various Leagues do not have to involve themselves in chasing up slow teams, or in arguments about them unfairly adding players after the locking deadline.

By way of background, I am SA for the Asian League, and also for Team Australia  which plays in many league events. I have discussed the above suggestion with several other League officials and find it has a considerable support amongst them.

Yeah, in the World League, we often see teams wrangling over which will lock first.  Having an auto-start option would greatly simplify matters.

I see this as a definite must. Even though Team Australia would be slightly disadvantaged (as we and NZ are the 1st to see daylight and 1st to bed) it'll stop teams dilly dallying about and is fair to all, there can be no more arguments.

Let's get it to happen please chess.com!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it would be great if this facility added to the features...

As Mr. Rex said, in all the leagues, the admins will not get involved in arguments and complaints.

But most of the problem is with those teams at the bottom of the table in each division (in AL case). The rest are ok.

This would be a real improvement for all team matches, including those outside of the league play.  Position relative to the date line shouldn't be a problem if the deadline specifies a particular UTC hour and not just a date.  It should be easy to show a countdown clock on the match page so no one could claim confusion-- they use such countdown clocks for the chess.com tournament start times.

Absolutely 100% for this its been suggested before and its a superb idea and will make admins lives a LOt easier and not just in the World League but in other tournaments too

Lets have this auto lock system with WL /AL games and where min players are not reached, auto forfeits also added on. How they do, I donot know

Avatar of Pawnpusher3

That would be good.. I think that if a team has to forfeit, the other team should still get points.. its ridiculous with how many teams cancel because they get outrated on 3 or so boards out of like lets say 6.. thats only 50%.. so each team has a 50% shot at winning.. and they cancel. Sometimes its ridiculous.. thats why I like autostart and this date function would make it great!

I'm not as keen on auto start for numbers, 1st team in dominates and can quite often be very lopsided. Date auto start though is fair to both teams with an even time for each team to recruit players.

Indeed

In addition to being more fair, it would be nice for registrants to know when a match is going to start.  I've withdrawn from several matches because the sign-up goes on and on for weeks, either waiting for more or higher rated people to join.  I like to keep my number of active games within a particular range, and ideally have them spread out through various stages of the game.  Those matches that take forever to start up don't give me 2 games when I want them, and might dump the games on me later when I don't want them.  Auto-start dates would take care of that.

i was the sa in team Holland and had low players the most play against higher players and lost the most games in the W L and stuf, so i maid a 1st , 2nd and 3rd team in my team and the players don't like that and now im not the sa in team Holland but i have more teams whit 3 teams in the team but worldwide and play not in the leaquse but i can do that so it's a good idea to take precautions and how to play against each other to change.

Was searching the site for what auto-start means and could find no definative answer by using the site search function.

Thought I would post in this thread then for two reasons; first being the bump-worthy nature of this thread IMO (the suggestion that games have a start-by date option regardless of team sizes), second in the hopes of getting a definitive answer - preferably by a knoweldgable mod or admin - about what auto-start means on this site at this time.

Specificaly I am wondering if auto-start means: a) The game starts automatically when both teams reach the upper limit of the players allowed (eg. in a 5-10 players per team game when both teams reach 10 players), or b) when both admins "manually" lock in teams.

Thanks in advance to anyone providing a definitive answer.

Edit: nevermind, its been added. Thanks to those who got this done.

Ah, so it has, thanks for the update.

It seems like the auto-start date is not shown to players, I would like to see this shown to everybody on the sign-up page.
