Is it worth it to play here ?

Retguvvie, those are all fair points. I thought the management would prefer the Feedback & Site Suggestions forum to being pm'd or whatever, I wouldn't have thought they would like people messaging them with every minor complaint, so my suggestion was to move the thread to the Feedback forum as it is not offtopic there - I should have made this clearer. (After all, what else is the Feedback Forum for). I was generally posting with regard to the thread title rather than the OP.
I use Firefox, but I don't want to delete cookies/history - I need them for stuff! These should have a negligible effect on transfer rate in any case, I have a T1 connection and that really should be capable with it. I guess it is just a case of traffic, maybe not so easy to deal with on a site this large.
I don't think this is (or should be) run like a poker site, that was just to point out that software is available to prevent the "lol..lol..lol.." type of spamming that plagues any high traffic chatroom.
"no-one is going to buy premium for this anyway." That isn't short sighted, it's just realistic. The rule just comes across as "oh well, you're not paying, we'll just make things extra awkward for you". Doesn't achieve anything except to be a pain, if you take the above suggestion about spamming into account.
mrguy888, thanks for that info, the extra advantage of being able to grab pgn at any time though is that I like to watch master games, and often a position comes up that I would like to check out for myself with an engine, to see if my idea is right or whatever. It shouldn't be hard to implement this in any case, my point is why bother about downloading when it's a simple text file that can so easily just be put in the clipboard.

Between the ever-increasing commercial slams, the rude (even stalker-like) behavior of some members & what seems to bve some erratic functioning of the games here...it seems more trouble than it's worth.
If you are so desperate for funds to maintain the site, I suggest you consider shutting it down, because the way you're tryinh to build is not going to work.
Darnit, here I was thinking the is a great site and all, but turns out it's not. Alright erik, you heard the man - shut it down.

Yeah chess.com, if you make so little money from ads, then why are you listed on Google? Everyone knows that's how Google works - the more money you get from ads the higher your spot.

If you dont like paying just dont. And let the swarm of Ads rain all over your webpages. Then there will be a flood of spam for 40 days and 40 nights until you pay hommage to your chess idol (whatever that may be).
oh yeah almost forgot
+1
Hyposcricy FTW.

I would love to be able to come here and chat about, say, next week's London Chess Classic while the games are in progress, but this is not feasible with this rule.
"That rule only applies to Main Hall chat. Not the other chatrooms"

you answered your own question, my point is that no-one is going to pay premium just for the chat privilege. With all of the extra benefits that premium members get, which are great, doesn't the chat rule seem petty and insignificant in comparison?

kohai, thanks, it looks like the Debate room could be use to do this, if mods are ok with chess talk in there. I had only tried Chess Talk which is only for premium members. Hopefully we can get some good chats going when the London Classic starts, they can be very fun and rewarding.
There are several board improvements that could be made as well. To give some examples, I play on another site where you can easily flip the board at any time, you can copy PGN at any stage by right-clicking on the move list, instead of having to go through the unnecessarily cumbersome process of having them emailed after the game, and clicking back to earlier moves during a game is much smoother. There is also no lag, maybe this is because you have to download a java client, could be an option to be considered here.
There is a little button that says "get pgn" on your list of games. This downloads the pgn not emails it.
