Hi

I am new here and new to chess tourneys so please excuse if this is daft.

I fancy enroling in a tournament but i really like playing over days and weeks rather than kind of online but live.  I dont want to sign up to find out its the wrong thing for me so can someone explain if they are done over a longer period or if they are 'live'.

thanks very much

Nick

There are two types of chess here - "online" or "live". Online chess, or turn-based chess, is just like traditional correspondence chess where you get days to make each move. These tournaments can go on for years.

Live tournaments have just been introduced, starting around the clock. These are played in one sitting, at varying time controls.

The only thing I could add about the "online" (aka correspondence) games is that the majority of the tournaments are set to 3 days per turn, but they could also be 1, 2, 5, 7, 10, or 14 days per turn
