B - don't give a s**t about ratings. I just like to play chess. BUT...

...didn't really understand the question. What does a "tournament turns into a tor-m-ent" mean??? Lol

I don't get it!

Click on the links in torment to see the unhappiest people on the site, perhaps the unhappiest people in the world, posting in these two tournaments.

I thought he was referring to the 14 day time control.  Would take years and years to finish....

The players who enter 14 day time control tournaments should be made aware of the possible duration.

In contrast here are two tournaments where players, so far, patiently await the ending of round one.

1 - Starting 2008 07 16 with 11 games not yet started as of today. Estimated time for round one is two years plus.

2 - Starting 2008 05 26 with 4 games remaining and currently in progress. Estimated time for round one is 18 months or less.

My sources tell me there's an extra special place in Hell for people who create 14 days/move tournaments and use the one game followed by the other setting. (Following up from an earlier Gonnusuke statement.) This tournament will probably last from 8 to 16 years.

Advertising: Slow but fast, time control 14 days/move, group size 2, both games start immediately and no vacation. Estimated duration 4 to 8 years.

I would select option A, but I would resign games where I'm significantly behind in material.

"Torment"??? what could be happening at a chess tournament to be "Torment"  are the directors waterboarding people, do your oppenents have "body odor"???  if i paid my money for the tournament i would stay, and i would send a certified letter to the director and the USCF (or the sanctioning authority) if something really upset me about the event....... By the way, i digress here but please view my profile, i would like 2,000 hits thanks........just thinking outloud here.......

Appears the tournament director acsmith has decided to close his account and withdraw from the hostility generated from using the site according to site policy. (Of course there could be any number of other reasons.)

If everyone could keep in mind, you are allowed to play 14 days per move games with auto-timeout protection and unlimited tournament entries.

Only torment is when I finish my games in 5-6 days and then w8 8 months for others. I just love people who play in last hour of their time when they are down Bishop and Pawn.

So I will say A.

If by torment you think that I will be destroyed - I can handle good with players 1800-1900 rating, (im 1728 now), but there will always be better then me, so I am not to downhearted when 2200 player beats me from his I-phone while he is under shower...

I know the time limits are well known about but I usually try and play a game within the spirit of chess.  I don't have a problem with people going on vacation we all have to from time to time.

However I will always play all my games to checkmate (even if I am left with just a King) as I have sometimes (very rarely) achieved a stalemate (and therefore a draw) with just my King.

You can draw it by stalemate if the opponent does a blunder or even win it (on time )of course

A) Stay, possibly harming your psyche.

That ship has long sailed.

I have 2 senarios. A- I can endure someone who plays slower than a paralyzed turtle if we are evenly matched, I'm winning, or I have some hope. B- I withdrawn when the person takes forever to move and takes every one of my pieces one by one until (even though they could have done it way earlier) they checkmate me. Thank you for you time.
